Re: Canada Post- Whats up with that

Most people don't realise how complicated the regs are. Once you get the hang of packaging stuff to take advantage of their system, life gets easier for all concerned. Just like any other organisation, the post office is full of people, people like you and me. Look around you, and see how you all differ: some of you work well with customers, some don't. Some fully understand their job, some don't.

Our little post office only has a half-dozen people in it: one is a robot, pure and simple, One comes across as near sainthood, she is so good at the job. Strangely they all like their jobs, and (gasp!) do their best. I am always offered a number of different options, and hints on how to save money...

Have found that the postal people here in Town for the most part will try hard to give you the best price they can. If its more then you think it should ask why. Might be another option to ship.

I just got a package weighing 1.6 kilos and measuring about 30x20x10cm from Vancouver and it cost about $23. Expedited parcel and it came by truck (took five days).

Don't forget that you're subsidizing the shipping of packages into remote hamlets in the far North and having a paid postmistress/master servicing that community. The courier companies can compete with Canada Post in the large metropolitan areas but won't cover the remote hamlets without a hefty charge being paid by the people from there.

Essentially, they're the only game in town.

Hey Sport seems size is not relative to price

Sent a “HUGE” parcel (2.36kg) to Ontario and she only charged me 23 bucks, go figure!

Did she comment on your package size?

I would have looked at his id badge, then asked to see his supervisor, then asked where in the postal regualtions it says that that sized package cannnot be sent. Then ask for free insurance for $100 to cover, plus free postage for the package.

Getting paid for doing nothing...... Just was watching "Maid in Manhattan" and watched JoLo's character dealing with a nasty salesperson..... as a customer for a customer-oreiented company, the clerk's remark was helpful but at total odds with their business.

Re: Canada Post- Whats up with that

It boils down to one thing and one thing only. The idiot behind the counter probally didn't want to do the extra work to ship your package. It was probally a few mins to their break time. Next time, tell the idiot to look up the minimum size requirements for Canada post, and then make the moron eat his words when he finds out your package is fine. Canada post will not get any better untill we stand up and say " would you like a smack with that attitude? Ship my damm package and STFU." They have no real compatition so they do what ever they want, then scream bloody murder when they are not selling tons of stamps because Emails and such are cutting down their sales.

Do yourself a favour, try and befriend the local UPS or FedEx manager and see if you can get a better deal for shipping, exspecially if you send alot of packages.

I had the same problem, you track and item, says its being delivered to your address, they attempted to give it to you, but all you get is the piece of paper that says you need to go to this place and pick it up. What I did was waited one day for the post lady to show up, had a nice lil chat with her, pointed out this was my house and I would love to have the package delivered to my house. Now everything that doesn't fit into the mail box, comes right to my door with a smile. Sometimes a kind word and such works wonders. Guess I should point out I live out in the boonies and my mail box is one of the green superboxes... but my house is 150 ft away..

Dangerous neighbourhood in Oakville? One day? Must be a special card, mine have checkboxes for next day or later same day availability, nothing about returning it. Shipper can ask for card instead of delivery attempt...

Hey Micheal, try another post office, never had that problem here in Lachine QC. You can also try a post office at a pharmacy.
