Re: Monkeyblunt 2700. if yobbos had planes

I never thought I would like these cheappass little ugly foam flying wings. I sneered that tTeksumo for at least a year. Built more respected FPV planes. None of this little wee junkie plane

Then I noticed more and more folks doing little Teksumo and SwiftII FPV projects. So I ordered up a Teksumo kit (just happens to be the same hunk of foam I made into the Monkeyblunt here). First flight was just a revelation! I was sooo easy to launch and relaxed to fly, yet somewhat aerobatic. Would float on thermals for 30 minutes with eagles doing circles with me. Just a great great experience for FPV flying, with minimal input and never any significant repairs needed. Last year all the small EPP wings exploded on the market and everyone built one or two! 2012 the Zephyr2 was the plane to build, but I bet last year they sold more CaipirinhaFPV kits (small EPP Wing like the Teksumo/Popwing)

Nice. I'm almost done with my teksumo I just have to install the fpv gear on it, waiting on the Vtx I will pick it up in Montreal this weekend and I will be using the #16 as main fpv camera for now.

couple more details on this plane

I put on the stiff CF tubes to stiffen the servo rods. easy cheap way to do it

and I put on this dirt flap to help keep wee stones out of the motor

oh yeah, the bottom is even uglier than the top - ha. Like I say, a yobbo machine

Prior to this, I was landing on the gravel runway. And got small stones right into the motor. I added a stone flap, but wanted to try for the grass. But turns out the wind shifted and I had tailwind landing there. banked left to avoid a small hump ... spalshdown

this one is heavy-built, but slippery and fast. A purpose built FPV plane, low cost and tough plane. Not built for looks at all. Also, this one has been built, flown a hundred times, torn down, rebuilt, then torn down and stripped into pieces again prior to this build. All flat plane fits in the car or backpack easily and no risk of hangar rash. All from a $30 kit.

No fuse or empennage generally makes flying wings a bit more efficient than a regular plane. It's all lifting surface. No non-flying stuff like the fuselage on a plane, and no draggy empennage either. The swept wings make it more stable generally, especially in a dive or in wind. For FPV we are not looking at eh plane, so the ugliness is part of FPV culture - ha. Wings a re popular they give a more jetlike feel under the goggles but can also fly docile and slow. Much easier to lay out the electronics. and also it is the MOST CRASH resistant type of plane you can build. This one did a lawn dart the other day (ailerons reversed) and rebuilt in 10 minutes to fly flawlessly again.

plan to use for FPV 'combat' flyng

I have flown these flying wings without FPV, and for that I do not like flying wings at all. But for FPV, I love em. If not flying FPV I would rather be flying a scale warbird, aerobat or glider.

I see it too suffers from twin-fin-bobble. Seems they all do that. I have often wondered if I can design a single fin for my wing. Remember my Warwing Delta I made for FPV? That thing has NO yaw at all. A single fin in the center of a pusher might be complicated but not impossible. Maybe I'll tackle it this summer. I took my original wing out of service but have a TBRC wing that I am finishing. Would be neat to see if it solves the yaw problem.
