Re: Oil problem and great Jet Central service.

Heads up! I'm also member of the GTBA (Gas Turbine Builders Association) and it is well documented that using turbine oil in our turbines is toxic. They were meant for closed systems and not to be burned. Here is a quote from one of the member threads of GTBA:

"In addition, I again make a plea to everyone using aviation grade turbine oil to use alternative terrestrial turbine grades such as Mobil DTE Light. The additives used in the aviation grades are highly toxic, carcinogenic and bio-accumulative. It should be noted that as long as the content of any of these hazardous compounds make up less than 3% of the total finished product then manufacturers are not required to label such finished products as hazardous, despite the extremely hazardous nature of additives themselves. This doesn't mean that the finished products are not hazardous it just means they fall within the loophole in the labelling legislation, a ploy used to make product more attractive to customers.

I have offered extensive explanation on this subject here in the forum and in the newsletter in the past, so I will not expound much further other than to say that due to the bio-accumulative nature of many of these additive compounds and the propensity, particularly by model jet pilots, to stand in the jet wash whilst taxiing, you are slowly breathing in medical problems for your future. Our engines use total loss lubrication, full-size don't - that's the difference! "

Something wrong there Chris, DTE lite is very thin, just like turbine oil. As Chuck stated; Jet Central now recommends that if you run DTE lite, you double the oil content of the fuel so, obviously, they've seen problems related to it.

I have been using it since last spring in my jet central turbines with no problems (about 50+ flights). I'm pretty sure everyone in niagara uses it and I haven't heard of any problems.

Re: Oil problem and great Jet Central service.

that explains it, my DTE (light) pours out the same as Shell/BP.

Hello TAK 3D,
Are you using the DTE lite now? How long have you been using it?

Re: Oil problem and great Jet Central service.

Thanks guy for your input, i spoke with a retailer today who can bring in the
Mobil DTE lite. I don't think he knows there are 3 grades of DTE oil.

Re: Oil problem and great Jet Central service.

DTE comes in 3 grades, lite, medium and heavy. I know this because I had to specify when ordering otherwise I never would have known either.

That doesn't sound like DTE... ?
