Since they're co-axials they can't be exactly a clone frame, they may be loosely based on a trex 450 frame but there would have to be motor mounts for the two motors and the entire tail system would be missing. They could probably use the side frames with some modifications as the basis though.

If I were playing Jeopardy, my answer would be:

"What is the fastest growing segment in RC models?"

Re: Piles and Piles of Helicopters

Hopefully, this kind of development in RC can only strengthen the hobby and may benefit MAAC if they do get into CP helis and join clubs

Re: Piles and Piles of Helicopters

Come to think of it, that's how I got into helicopters. I was traveling on business via the Chicago airport, and saw this little heli in a display box about 4 years ago. I always dreamed about having one since I was a kid, and decided to get it. I had fun for a few hours until I hit the dealing and broke it. I did get one part from Brookstone, the store I got it from, but was told it would no longer be carried. I then went to a hobby show, got a used CX2, then an MSR, CP Pro 2, 450, 500, quadcopter and now 600. Oh, and a few planes and seaplanes as well, the latest, a Canadair twin engine I'm building over the winter. Too many projects now. I'm actually taking a break now. Haven't been active since mid October.

They'll be here soon enough looking for non-existent spare parts. My friend looked up one of the models at Costco (not a cheap one, either) and the reports were that it lasted most people around 30 minutes tops before something broke on it. At least with the Blade models (and similar hobby companies), you can get readily available replacement parts.

Future Shop also had all kinds of heli kits this week. WalMart had AirHog models, cheap. So flying helicopters is no longer restricted to a few. We'll have to think of something new

I you have been into Best Buy, Future shop, the Source, Walmart.. or anywhere that sells more than grocerys you have likely seen the piles of helicopters for sale. They are all the way up to 450 size now - all coaxial - and most are "gyro stabilized". In the stack pictured below I calculated more than 300 and there were two piles this big at the Best Buy in Halifax I was in.

There must be sales in the 10s of thousands in Canada for this Christmas.

I wonder how we reach the folks that buy these? They are all potentially future club member and CP flyers.
