But I guess I'm getting off topic as the thread is P-47 vs Spit. By the way, we maidened my friends P-47 last Sunday and it flies very nice. Very controlable, fast if you want to, plus the option of flaps and retracts! |

For a power supply I used my converter for my electric cooler. Puts out 5 amps and has worked fine for me. Cut the female cig lighter end off and just added large terminal post rings to it. You could possible find something at your local second hand store, as long as it puts out 12 volts and 4 or 5 amps it will work. Or order it all at the same time for a grand total of $180 with shipping. Dollar is good but expect to pay another $5 in exchange to see it get to your door. When ordering mark the invoice at 30% and check off the box for " GIFT " I bought my son the Hellcat when he was finally interested in flying. It flies like a glider and handles wind not bad. I left off the tank underneath and usually toss it into the air and belly land. The gear works fine as well. I use 3S 2200 mAh batts and get 8 min. wide open and around 12 min. just cruising around. You should get 6 min. flights or more (your battery is lighter) on your SC battery. My son didn't latch the battery cover properly and lost the battery on a loop and the plane went in and didn't hurt a thing. The Parkzone foam looks bad when new and looks even worse over time. If you get into trouble cut the power and hold back the elevator, has helped my son on a few occasions. I ran it into a tree and stripped a servo in one wing. The foam looks nicer than Z-Foam in the store but if you crash, the FMS will explode to bits where as the parkzone, you just pick it up and fly again. Talking from expierence. I LOVE Z FOAM! Also the electronics in an FMS dont even come close in the quality. |

Re: P-47D Thunderbolt vs Spitfire MK IX IMO the P-47 Jug, [short for Juggernaut] is the most forgiving flyer of all model WWII warbirds. A combination of wing form and tail group size/location makes it so. You can't go wrong with choosing it. Tex. |

First with 4ch. Everything that's been said here is everything I read about during my research. I've really been drawn to the p47 as I love the looks and the retracts, but I heard (from multiple guys) that the t-28 was the next logical step. For a charger, I got the accucel 6 from turnigy (hobbyking.com). Great reviews.. GREAT charger! I have my supercub batteries charging on there, and will soon be charging my 2200 lipos for the Trojan. The power supply is available at HK for a lot less then anywhere else. |

Re: P-47D Thunderbolt vs Spitfire MK IX Like you, I just got back into RC recently (about a year and a half ago). I've flown the Cub and have a few Parkzone warbirds including the T-28, Spit IX, and Wildcat. Between the P-47 and Spit, I'd recommend the P-47 simply on the basis of the gear. The Spit is reasonably challenging to take-off / land until you get used to the narrow stance gear. Also, while I haven't flown the P-47, my guess is that with that big radial engine blunt front end, it probably slows down a little more nicely than the sleek Spit IX does making speed management a little easier. In terms of rating these for 'skill' level, I'd suggest the following order (least to most challenging): T-28 (tough, nice flyer, stable, speeds up and slows down nicely, slow lander... AND you can throw it around the sky too) Wildcat (about the same speed / etc. as the T-28 but much, much more nimble) P-47 Spitfire Mk IX (faster than the T-28, 'heavier' feel, narrow stance gear not as nice on the ground, but hey, it's a Spit! And mine has retracts and it just looks cool) If you are not tight on the money, I'd really recommend the T-28 first... get the grey one. And then once your comfortable with that, either of the P-47 or Spit. If you're tight on money and don't want to wait, get the P-47. My 2cents worth... and about all it's probably worth. LOL |

Re: P-47D Thunderbolt vs Spitfire MK IX One thing not mentioned is the elliptical wingtip of the Spitfire -- low speed flight (take offs, landings, and general stooging around) can result in a tip stall. The Thud has a square tip which is less prone to a tip stall. |

Re: P-47D Thunderbolt vs Spitfire MK IX I was also thinking of getting a P47 but why don't you check FMS (sold by snhobbies, Nitroplanes etc..) These are larger than the parkzone and I think they look better. As for quality - the electronics might be questionable but with HK parts you will end up with a better and probably cheaper plane. I had an extra 300 from Parkzone and did not like the quality at all, the type of foam, paint servos etc. Also since it is small (like the one you refer to) everything is extremely tight and cramp inside. I know I should not compare but I recently bought a Carbon Z which is also foam but is 100 times better quality than the Extra. I do not have an FMS plane but from what I read they are ok. As for Chargers I agree with the Thunderpower and I have the same one ....but if you do not want to spend so much check the ones from Hobbypartz they have cheaper ones and also the HK Turnigy Accucel for $23 (if you order from Hobbypartz and go with chargers with no AC in you should buy the PS from them as it powerful and you pay the same price for shipping). All that said the cheaper way will be to use an old PC power supply and just add a couple of resistors this will be more than enough. |
