Re: Top Flite Giant Scale P47 Thunderbolt

Got some work done on both P-47s, on mine, the 60 sized, got the wing top painted for the RAF colours. Used Benjamin Moore Aura paint, it's water based, exterior, and with a little bit of extender, sprays clog free. Great to work with. Once all the detailing is done, the whole thing gets a coat of Americana spray Matte finish.

On the Giant Scale P-47, the supercharger exhaust sucks. It's way too fake looking, without adding some detail, so some scrap plastic, and referring to a book on modelling the P-47 (plastic kits), it now looks much better.

More progress! Cowl assembled, and first coat of primer, along with control surfaces. Bottom of the wing needs glassing of the bellypan, then it's ready for primer.

Glassing is done, now doing the spot and glaze putty, then sand and prime. Couple more days, and all the control surfaces will be finished, and attached! Yay. Also started working on the plastic cowl, ick. But, the first 3 parts are cut, fit, glued, and filled, so it's going well.

One elevator is now fully glassed, and one side of the rudder, other elevator, aileron, and flap. Still have to finish building one flap and aileron, but should get the others fully glassed after supper.

Re: Top Flite Giant Scale P47 Thunderbolt

I wish. Let's see, a Great Planes F-4 Phantom, just have some panel lines to do, and finish the cockpit kits, there's a Dave Platt Me-109, a Dave Platt Spitfire, both 1/5th scale, the Top Flite P-47 giant scale, for a buddy, Glenn, then I've got my Top Flite FW-190, my 60 sized Top Flite P-47, the Me-s6s, oh, and hoping to get the wing center section done on the 100% scale Hawker Hurricane, for the Aviation museum! The last pic is the center wing section main box spar, it's an inch over 9 feet long. Two more spars to do up, cut the six ribs, each rib is cut in sections, between the spars, makes things a bit more workable.

Very nice work Dave! Coming along quite nicely. Is the Jug the only plane your bringing to your spring show? If not then the pressure's on! Hi Mike good to hear your back on, and starting your build again. My modivation has been somewhat slow lately, but like I posted before, all I have are excuses and no reasons. But what you have are reasons in my opinion and as time goes by I'm sure you'll find your interest again.

Re: Top Flite Giant Scale P47 Thunderbolt

Got a whole lot more work done today, top of wing has it's first coat of primer, checked the fit of one aileron and flap, will get them glassed tomorrow, along with the rudder, rudder trim tab, elevators, and hopefully filled sanded and primed early next week. Few more hours to go before the fuse is finished. Once the airframe is fully sanded and primed, I'll start all the marking for placement of the panel line tape, that's going to take some serious time to complete, then 2 more coats of primer. Tons of gear installation yet to do as well, mad rush to get it done for the spring hobby show, just under a month to go.

I've got a lot of catching up to do, too catch up to you guys and hope to get my bird flying this summer but it might be later now. Great jobs on your thunderbolt's guys.

Got some hinging done tonight, the rudder, one elevator, one aileron, and close to getting the first flap installed! Should have all the control surfaces finished, hinged, and then fully glassed by end of tomorrow!

Wing is now completely glassed. Working on finishing and installalation of the control surfaces. Fuse wing fillets are progressing nicely, servo tray is mounted, it's coming along!
