Re: Saito FA90 R3 Radial

Thanks for all the info! The 30" version is available through the AMA plans service for $7 so I'm ordering that and will get it blown up. I think a 60" span is doable for this engine so long as it's light. There seems to have been a 1/4 scale plan available at some point, drawn by RE Pattison but I don't think my chances of finding it are very good. I'll keep you posted as to what I find.

Here is a plan for a 30" one I found a while back. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...002490&page=23

A bit of a write up by Norm Goyer. http://www.acmp.com/blog/early-homeb...oln-sport.html

I could even work from a good clear 3 view. These are pretty poor!

Ya, every time I see it in the museum I fall in love all over again! Not a very big bird so 1/4 scale could be just right for us. The one I have access to has a twin so it could be built either way and still be scale. I haven't looked lately but was not able to find plans a few years back. I am interested in a set if you find them or perhaps we could find full scale plans and modify them? I would share the cost.

Oddly enough, fate may have intervened. I ordered the Sopwith Pup from AMR and got an email back saying that it was out of stock and they wouldn't order any more until the exchange rate was better.....strange way to do business. So now I'm on the hunt for Lincoln Sport plans!

Wow, that Lincoln Sport is beautiful! If I had the time to commit to a scratch build for this engine then I'd pick that for sure. Who knows, you've got me thinking now.......

Good for you Richard, all the best in your build. We'll be watching with interest.

I definitely lucked out on this one, will need the Keleo Creations exhaust and on board glow for it still. I'm going to go ahead and order the Sopwith Pup, I think it will be the best match for it. Not at all what my next project was supposed to be but couldn't resist the radial. Build thread to follow

Re: Saito FA90 R3 Radial

There is a used one on this web site for $600! I got mine from south of the border for $450 and thought I was doing good! Ha! Oh well...

I haven't run mine yet but I heard it run on You Tube before I bought it - pretty sweet sound! Yes I have heard that they are not that powerful but in this day and age of "if it won't hover it ain't worth buying" I'm not taking that too seriously.

I'm not totally decided on what mine will go on either, something scale of course, maybe a Lincoln Sport biplane?

Nice buy - enjoy!
