Re: float attachments Hi Glenn ; Have you checked out Sea Commander floats in BC ? www.seacommander.com They are up for sale so I am not sure if you can order anything but there are some good pictures that could give you some ideas. |

Re: float attachments I used streamline stock extrusion,approx .5 mm thick,1/4 wide x 1/2" long,so my inserts were 3/16 wide by 7/16 long,...1/4 thick and tapped.and drilled using 1/32 drill.Alex |

Re: float attachments Good Job Alex. Did you used the heavy gauge srut ( airfoil) material? I think the standard stuff usually kept at the hobby shop will fold from any heavy impact. Let us know how you make out. Your method would be great for 'N' sruts on a bi plane. Glenn |

Re: float attachments crazy glue removes any slop in the above procedure.I used it for my Beaver wing to landing gear struts |

Re: float attachments I took my airfoil shaped tube, and cut a wee bit of it to use to trace the inside profile on some aluminum bar stock.I then drilled and tapped the stock with 4/40 threads, and sanded the aluminum to the template shape...cut that stock to make 2 pieces and inserted that stock in my strut.I then drilled small holes thru the strut and insert, and pinned them using finishing brads. Now I can thread in 4/40 eyelets and attach whatever I want,be it couplings, clevis's,anything.Alex |

float attachments I've been looking for materials to attach floats. Is there a source for airfoil materials for the fuselage to float struts? I have thought of streamlining wire struts with hard wood. I have considered sliding piano wire or flat bar inside of streamline aluminum and filling with epoxy. The last bend on wire is a problem. I have also considered a steel tubing inside of streamline aluminum threaded for custom clevis type fittings on both ends. I have done this on wing struts with some success. See attached I have seen some very well done attachments on models from out West, any sugestions? Thanks Glenn |
