Glad to hear this John.
Now fly-fly-fly. Next thing you'll be on to something else, maybe bigger. But have fun, burn fuel, and smile.
I'm looking forward to getting home and doing some flying, possibly this week-end before returning to work.

Enjoy the justification, ha-ha.
Our club spring fun-fly this week-end. I'm just detailing a 6 flight airframe to continue to trimming process as well.
Fly

Hope your weather is great.

I thought back to when I bought the plane from its previous owner - at the time the receiver battery was mounted just aft of the wing tube, so I moved it there too. The result - another 10 mm back... 169 mm from the leading edge. Still a little nose heavy if we're judging by the wing tube.

In the process I removed the landing gear reinforcement and standoffs (I may reinstall it if I think it's warranted), the BatShare, and the mounting plate, hardware and straps that held the receiver battery to the motor box, for a total savings of 210 g (nearly half a pound).
We'll see how it goes at the next flight. If it's too much I'll move the receiver battery forward and try again.
I got my next flights in yesterday. It was an improvement but I think I've gone a bit too far the other way. It was a little tail heavy so I have moved the battery to just in front of the wing tube. We'll see how it flies next time.

Note the new weight in the upper right corner, down from 19.8 lbs.

Re: Bolt-in replacements for DA 50?

I went to the field today for a few test flights and a little weight removal.

Flight 1 - unchanged. During inverted 45º upline nose dropped immediately.
Flight 2 - removed the last of the lead weights - 258g. During inverted 45º upline nose dropped more gradually
Flight 3 - removed 1 of the 2 rx batteries - 188g. During inverted 45º upline nose dropped very slowly

Just short of a pound (!) removed for a big improvement. Not only for the upline, but landings were easier too.

Cowl off, before removal of lead weights and lower RX battery on right).

Yes, as Joe say's. It's your hobby, set it up for your flying tastes. Trimming tools are just that, ways to gauge where you are. And, what you can try next to obtain your desired flight characteristics.

Best of all, fly. The more the merrier.
Just got home, heard my friend is out trying his new radio. Might have to join him. Yard tasks can be done in the wind.

Have you looked into white rose engineering? I got a couple of their weight washers for a 35 & 40% a few years ago. I got different sizes and it helped me a lot to determine the sweet spot on the CG of that airplane. I think you can ask them to make you a couple of those (different weights for a 50cc size) You would need longer prop bolts though.

At this point I'm looking to remove weight, not add it. As it happens I was looking at the wheels on White Rose engineering today. Very nice... but very pricey. A pair of 4-1/2 wheels with titanium axles and shipping - $179.95 US before tax! There are other places that I can reduce weight that won't cost anything.

Depends on weather you can fly inverted.
