This is how its done on my Futura and simplifies assembly a great deal. I have a larger washer than what is shown here.
How did you do the blind nut/ply plate install in the wing? Would you have any pictures of it? My wing panel doesn't fit tight to the root, there is a gap at the leading edge. A wing bolt on the root would close up the poor fit.

Trev,
I did get a couple flights on the Scorpion at KJ, not sure if there are pics and video. I'm not as comfortable with it as I am the Futura so at a large event I flew the Futura a lot more. I'll get more flights later this month (heat wave here right now) and aim to post some video. The fuel and smoke setup did work without any issues so I was happy about that.

Hey Cy! Not sure quite yet! I have a SM Viperjet with JC Cheetah that I hope to maiden later this week and was hoping we could get Peter's Scorpion out also! I'll keep you in the loop!

Re: Aviation Design - Scorpion

Did a little plumbing today. Cleaned out the partitioned smoke tanks and plumbed it in series with the kero side to give me 4L of kero.

This evening my two smaller smoke tanks arrived. I just placed them in to check sizing and will plumb and secure them tomorrow. They hold just over a liter of smoke oil.

When I originally flew mine, I had the cg too far forward and ran out of elevator on one of the landings which ended up I the death bounce. A proper cg - far enough back is essential. It flies better in the turns with a rearward cg as well. If I can recall, the rearward cg also helped with the flap trim issue as well.

Is the split tank the largest that is offered? I seem to recall there was something larger available ?

Bruce, as far as grass fod, you will have a problem. I plugged a fod screen on mine and never got it off the ground. I ended up building some balsa covers over the wheel wells which solved the problem. I think you would like this jet and it handles well.

Thanks Paul, its feeling more comfortable, but I'm still thinking a little nose heavy. I'm working with Gary on a pair of smaller smoke tanks that I'm going to put back on top of the turbine rails. They will be about 20oz each. Then I'll plumb my split tank in series for only kero to give me 4L capacity. Should extend flight time nicely.

I've had 5 flights now and don't see any signs of FOD from the main gear. I retract my gear quickly too after takeoff. They retract inwards so in theory debris should be thrown back. Paul's suggestion of a guard or cover would work too if you are worried about it. Also, if you order via ultimate jets you will also be able to get the full bypass they are currently working on. That will not only speed the plane up, but also should eliminate your FOD concerns. They aim to do a 140 class bypass as well as a 100 class size for smaller turbines.

Hey Guys,

Jettech makes the same tank without the partition giving you just over 4L capacity which is what I have, I get more than 8 mins with my JB180 using a lot of power with plenty go around fuel.

I haven't had any issues on grass as long as there isn't loose clippings as in my case.

Trevor, with airbrake you will need additional up elevator mixed in as in my case even with the rearward cg.
