Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Flew the Mirage a couple days ago in some crosswind. My first landing looked smooth enough but it must have bent the right leg inwards just enough to prevent the leg extending on the second flight. The AB works and is visible but the strong light in the center is not ideal. From a distance it looks fine but up close it is less appealing than other planes where the light is recessed further into the thrust tube. Unfortunately the fan sits right at the tail on this design making it difficult to do right. Anyway, the second landing I decided to land with only the nose and left main extended in grass, having done this successfully before. This time the plane swung 90 degrees toward the right then flipped over damaging the vertical stab. Nothing a little 5minute epoxy, time and paint can’t fix but annoying just the same. In hindsight I should have landed gear up on the grass as that has also worked in the past with no damage. Love and learn (we hope)! |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Thankfully the nose broke off fairly cleanly and has been repaired with epoxy and PU glue for the larger cracks. Some plastic outer panels conceal the damage and add extra strength. Also had a chance to tidy up some of the wiring which was always a bit of an eyesore. |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Installed a YEP 150amp ESC along with the afterburner electronics. A small servo actuates a micro switch turning on power to the LED which will be mounted on the back of the motor. The servo is simply slaved off the throttle. |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Had a number of enjoyable flights over the past two days. Unfortunately the ESC packed it in when I was a ways downwind over the forest. I managed to glide it just past the edge of the trees and it plopped down hard enough to snap off the nose and tailcone. The weight of the battery and EDF made relaively clean breaks so it will be an easy fix (once I come up with a new ESC). It is a good chance for us to add an afterburner! |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Much like our other older models, we didn't have any lights installed so today we added some landing lights. 6V flashlight bulbs running power from the radio switched on and off with a microswitch. The harness plugs into the nose gear retract keeping the wiring as simple as possible. |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Yes, the actual sheets are clear plastic and they have a satin finish |

Re: Fly Fly Mirage 2000 Build by 4stripes Sorry John, you have lost me... You said "They sell the clear plastic sheets and after printing, use the krylon satin spray clear coat to seal in the ink." I asked if the sheets were clear. Clear would be handy for small placards and writing. White is also handy for most insignia. Will have to check out Staples next time I'm in town. |
