Re: Drain gas tank after a day of flying?

I drain my planes (usually just hookup the pump, give a few twirls to fill the line, then drop the tank on the ground and let gravity siphon it).
I had one stopper start backing out of a tank...the neck of the tank was wedge shaped and the sideways force on the stopper pushed it out just far enough for it to leak slightly when full (up to the stopper level). If I had left it full in storage, it would have been a heck of a mess...

I have all glow engines, I drain the tank after every flying day. This way you don't end up with any surprises.

I always drain my tank. A few years ago I fueled up my Beast. I found that the tail wheel was damaged so I took the plane apart, and put it back in my trailer. A couple days later I opened up the trailer and got hit by the smell of gas. After a closer look a realized I didn't drain the tank. At that time I also pugged the vent lines. The heat in the trailer from the summer days caused the stopped to blow out and drain the tank down to the bottom of the stopper. The caused me to not fly it for a year to let it dry out. I had to go over all glue joints after that just to be safe!!

I used to leave fuel in until I accidentally fueled the wrong plane to go fly. Dead stick landing was fine but so I would not do that again I decided to defuel my tanks for storage.
So now there is not enough fuel in the lines to start up, warm up and taxi to the end of runway.

Also considering the smallest tank I have is a liter. That's a lot of extra usage on my pump. Lol
d like a friend of mine - now that he uses LiFe cell for the radio he reckons he can charge at the beginning of the season and that's it for the year. Just to be safe he also charges in the middle of the year

You will have less accelerant, but less fuel also means more fumes in the tank. I work on a ferry & when people carry jerry cans they must be full of gas or filled with water to eliminate the fumes.

I read something about keeping felt clunks wet.

Many mix oils have fuel stabilizer in them , so adding it is not necessary IMO.

My daughter told me something similar when she was five or six: "Daddy, when you try to go fast, you go slow." She was using "you" in the third person, as "one"... no idea where she heard this but I think of it often when I am tempted to rush.

Probably would have also saved you the month of "bitching" too.
