Re: Am I missing something?

You're most definitely right; Gliders don't need props either!

LOL they'll probably think you're nuts! Interesting project

Re: Am I missing something?

Thanks Thomas, real gliders don't have props, right?

This is actually for a novelty project, 4 jets in formation but I posted here as the most likely place to get folder feed back.

Try asking for parts for a project like that at a "Hobby Mart"! Ha! I'm not that stupid! Just ask for glider folders - simpler - I thought... !

Re: Am I missing something?

The market is simply too small for retailers to carry much stock for us niche guys. Unfortunate, but it also opens up the door for a lot of online vendors who specialize for what we want. The only time I ever go into a LHS is if I run out of epoxy and my order isn't here yet....

Then again, I don't even order from online vendors, I just get them from the manufacturers :P

Re: Am I missing something?

Thanks for the link Zeesl! Got one of those once in a box of junk at an auction, no spinner though or collet. I don't mind paying for quality, folders seem to last for ever!

I have only been slightly active in the hobby for a few years & going into hobby stores now I am appalled at how little is in them for a "builder"!

Same with fun fly's. A bit like taking an old time hot rod nut to the local mall parking lot in lou of a proper Show & Shine! Ya, lots of cars but it just ain't the same!

Excuse us "old guys", always pinning for the good old days!

Still lots of great people in the hobby though!

Hi Dan! Long time no see you ! Just returned back from sloping at Downsview hill.

I bought few things from aircraft-world before. CAM blades and a spinner of very high quality although a bit expensive. All stuff serves me well for about 3-4 years.
Later I bought cheap blades and couple of spinners from HK. Blades not balanced. On a spinner's collet the slits were too short to grip the motor shaft tight. I needed to cut them with a handsaw. And overall quality was so-so. Was not happy. May be they are better now, don't know. Did not buy props from them for couple of years. I am more into gliders you know.

Regards, Slava.

You are actually proving my point, if you want quality, you have to order from a website that carries specialty items, just like always, don't expect local hobby shop to carry or have extensive knowledge of you particular part of the hobby. By the way if you live in Toronto , A&J hobby shop actually carries many Graupner folders in stock, if you are willing to pay their prices!

I used to buy folding props from here http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopdi...=folding+props

May be expensive, but high quality. I loved those. Can not even compare to cheaper folders from HK.

Re: Am I missing something?

Actually, not true, I called last year when the sale was on and bought a bunch of the folders they were dumping, they carried them for a long time and sold very little in last 2 years, so they decided not to carry stock not enough people want, a normal business decision.
With increased sales in Radian, suddenly there is a 'slight' rise in interest in folders, but only in the 10/6 , 11/6 size for the Radian. If they go to Graupner to order that, they want the dealer to carry the whole line of folders and invest a ton of money not just a couple of sizes and most of those sizes they will never sell and will be stuck with, so they do not bother, if you bother to ask you will get the same story from all local hobby stores. Don't be quick to judge the kid, he just works there and is trying to sell what they got in stock as he is told to and yes he probably does not know much about gliders, but he does not have to, they don't stock much of them. I am sure he would not know much about Jets either, cool hobby but not very popular.

Re: Am I missing something?

Yeah, Great Hobbies is killing itself with crap like that: they are getting no call for folders because they don't stock them, not the other way around. Clearly they need to pay more so that they can get better employees, simple as that.
