Come any time, I'll be five minutes away from the field all summer and fall.

MAN issue next month Sept for Maidenfest 2013

Just got the proof read of next month Canadain Content Section and yes Maidenfest is in there like a dirty shirt! 2 1/2 pages 8 pic's Bill Kempt is front & center holding his H9 Twin Otter. He will need to get his autograph pen out for all his fans. This is the Sept issue out next.

I want to thank the Keswick club for all the help as my batteries died on my digital recorder at the event and had to ask for who's who after the fact.

Yours Truly
Ken Park

PS currently working my butt off getting the FAN FAIR ready for the Fathers day weekend up here in Ottawa - Hope to see all my GTA buds soon!

Pilots debrief: Polaris XL

This is a quick debrief of how the maiden went!

Model balanced according to plans on the step of fuse - Take off required full up on grass to comp for drag of the hull - Plane flew very smoothly and no trim was required flew hand off right away and really groved along at 1/2 throttle. At full throttle you could see the wings do a tiny bit of flutter in a dive. Its a flat plate wing a good thing to remember. Obviously has lots of power with this setup - I used the recommended control throws and I would say this bird would make a good trainer. On high rates this model would roll much faster much the way I want it to fly. Delta like this when stalled just hang nose high and leaf wobble till power is applied. Add a camera on nose for FPV or movies would be a great choice and or the foam would make for a good night flyer full of LED lights

The model is stock! took about a week to build with Epoxy, Gurillia glue, Spray 77 glue requires a 28" extension of wire between motor and ESC and some extensions for servos

Model: http://modelaero.com/Merchant5/merch...tegory_Code=AM

Package #2: Larger Motor (2810-9 with Master Airscrew 3-blade prop)

This package provides higher performance using a Suppo/Spinmax 2810-9 motor weighing 78g. It has a KV rating of 1350, which means that it turns more slowly than the 2212-6 on a three cell battery. The best propeller we have found is a Master Airscrew 8x6 three-blade; The motor will draw up to about 30A for short periods and 26-28A in sustained high power flying. Throttled back, it will cruise at about 14-16A.

Recommended ESC is 40A (with optional heatsink) or more. While the motor will work well with a 3s 2200 mAh battery of 20C rating, given the heavier current draw a 25-30C battery will give a little more power, generate less heat and may have better life span.

With this motor of over 300 watts, the Polaris XL accelerates rapidly on the water or ground and can go directly into a sustained vertical climb. It’s significantly faster than with the smaller motor. Typical all-up weight is 32-34 oz.

Note that with this motor, the Polaris XL can easily carry a larger battery, such as 3s 2500 to 3000 mAh.

Specifications:

Span: 38.5"
Length: 53"
Wing area: 606 sq in
Weight RTF: 28 to 34 oz
Wing loading: 7oz/sq ft
Motor: Spin Max 2810-9
Prop: 2810-9 motor-APC 8 x 6 2 blade or Master Airscrew 8 x 6 3 blade,
Battery: 2100 to 3000 mAh 11.1V lipo I used a 1800 for Maiden
Speed control: 40 amp with heat sinc
Receiver: 4 channel
Requires 3 servos, 17 oz/in minimum torque
Flight controls: Elevator, ailerons, rudder, throttle
