Re: Blade 400 Servo replacement? Who makes the best??

I went with the HS 65 HB's. they are going into my good 400. The stock ones from the good 400 will then be put into my learner 400.

Now a few questions:

When I put a new servo in how do I know if the arm is orientated correctly?

How do I fine tune its position?

Sub trim walk through would be nice.

If memory serves me right, The HiTEc 65mg has a slightly larger case. You may need to do some trimming to get them to fit in the holes.

I have been using the 65 for 2 years now and they are awesome. I do find that they don't center as well as I would like but hey you could do worse.

I am so impressed with all the support from this forum. Blades and servos are ordered. Once i get them I will attempt to swap them out. Once again thanks for all the help. Now to wait for my order.

I think they are the same gears in the Hitec hs55.

Stripped gears in the Eflite servos is common...they're not very good quality. I've stripped those gears while doing mild aerobatics. I know Hobby Hobby in Streetsville carries the gears for around $5 a set.

However, if you wish to replace those fragile Eflite servos, you don't need to go to expensive digital, metal-gear servos. I used Hitec HS65HB servos on my Blade 400 cyclic at approx $22 a piece. They're analog with plastic gears and still a huge improvement in handling and reliability because Hitec plastic gears are much tougher and have far less slop than the Eflites.

There's always the HobbyKing HXT900 servos. At under $3 each they've become quite famous. Folks use them in TREX 450 clones and rave about them. Check the link...read the reviews...

You can also simply buy the gear set for the stock servos. They do work and the gears are not hard to replace. Once your flying then go upgrade to different gear as you see fit. Horizon should list the gear set. If your local hobby shop does not have them Skycraft in Burlington might.

Re: Blade 400 Servo replacement? Who makes the best??

If you want a great little digital servo try the JR DS285 servos. Mine are 5 years old and going strong. They are a little larger than stock but should still fit. The advantage is that digital servos are much more precise than coventional servos. The Hitec are good as well. All name brand servos will work with your stock receiver and the only way the TX and RX will become unbound is if you unplug the speed control from your RX.
