... or it's a first solo, generally the instructor hops out and that's your signal that you're on your own.

Re: BIG RC PT-17 video & HUGE RC Planes vids & Talk

I sincerely appreciate the time, money, and effort involved to put a bird like these in the air; it's way beyond me. What an impressive result. I can't imagine the thrill of flying a near-true scale aircraft, especially a PT-17 which is one of my all-time favorites. Then again, I doubt it would fit into my Mazda 3 hatchback...

I take it that the engine in that model is the Moki 400

Bill
The Moki 400 is a 5 cyl engine...that one looks like a 7 cyl, possibly a Valach 800 or even the 1250cc

edit...1250 is a 9cyl.

Oh so true Bill!! Me and Old Prairie had that conversation on the phone some time back. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned that.

Here is a neat picture of a couple of real Stearmans for comparison. Other than a few small little details, this big model sure does look realistic. Sounds nice too Whoever built that baby should be proud of the job they did!!

Other than the pilot, you would swear you were watching the real thing. Isn't that what "modeling" means?

All those twitchy things that just abuse the atmosphere shouldn't be classed as "model" aircraft. They should be under a different heading, "novelty" flying machines, Hybred heli's, Radical projectiles or something similar!

In a PT-17, student flys front seat and PIC/instructor flys rear seat. This guy's "pilot" is in the front!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who picked up on that little detail Actually, that is a minor little pet peeve of mine. The number of models I have seen that the pilot is in the wrong seat is just stupid. If you are going to go to all the trouble of building a nice scale model and dress it up nicely, at least spen a couple minutes on the 'net and find out which seat the full size is flown from

Aside from that, it is a pretty incredible airplane!!
