Thunder Chicken Finally have had time to get some flying in this season! The scythe is a hoot. I can not believe the abuse it takes. The HK Rainbow did not survive repeated crashes, nor was it as stable under fpv. I’m modding a scythe to take a Run Cam in the nose with a 3D printed mount. Hope to keep it at 250g. For now, this will do
No one else around to race with takes some of the fun out of it but it is still fun staying low and fast!!

Thunder Chicken So I built a second Scythe, and made it light. It weighs in at 200g with the fpv gear and a 2s 460 battery. Has plenty of power for low level flying and some aerobatics! Motor is the indoor 2204-14t orange bell motor from HK(not available anymore?). With a 6a esc. HXT900 servos. The 500's stripped. The little camera (eachine tx03) does not handle light to dark very well but all and all for the price it's a neat, light set-up.

Thunder Chicken Well the Scythe is a hoot to fly! And tough!! The banggood Rainbow(800mm) is pretty decent for $20! The rainbow suffered a few bad crashes due to my incorrect CG and not setting the 'reflex' properly. Both have 2204 motors and using 850mah 3s batteries. Ready to fly (no fpv gear yet) the rainbow is 230g after several repairs, and the Scythe is a whopping 280g. I went overboard with hot glue and maybe abbot too much tape. However, the Scythe is nearly impossible to break. It's taken several nose dives at high speed and it just bounces, just a toss and away it goes for more! Well worth the $.
My second Scythe kit will be powered by a 2204-14, from the indoor blue foamie, 8x3.8 slow fly prop. It should be a lot lighter and hopefully slower for proximity flying! The all in one eachine camera/vtx combo should be here soon for these birds

Re: fixed wing racing

The Scythe's are on the way! ALso ordered a Rainbow 800mm from banggood ($30 how can ya go wrong!) I've had a few Mini arrows now from flitetest, and while they are a hoot and fly nice, the paperfoam just is not tough enough to take the abuse from my reckless fun =)
I was hoping to keep one with fpv under 250g.....time will tell. Now, to get a suitcase that will fit a wing, charger, tx and goggles and my clothes for 10 days at work.......

Re: fixed wing racing

Thunder Chicken, mine weighs in at 252g without the battery (now with a 2204 2300kv lumenier motor which oddly did not weigh too much more than the 1806)

I am also interested in the vertigo, I have had it in the cart a few times now... can't have too many wings...

Re: fixed wing racing

Greenpatches, any idea how much your TBRC wing weighs?

Im going to get a Scythe and the Vertigo from Crashtesthobby for now to play with i think.

Re: fixed wing racing

Mmmm small wings. I have been flying a TBRC apex, it's a nice little wing.
Currently I am flying with an 1806 2280kv and a 1300mah 3s spinning a 6x4. Not the fastest, but great for getting down low in the trees.

im looking at an EPP wing, as the flite test planes just are not durable enough to take the beatings. I want to use the 2204-2300kv motors from the quadcopters we all seem to have here. Will a 2204 with a 20a ESC and 3s 850mah battery fly a "crash test hobby' "Assassin? i almost like to keep it small and go with the "Scythe". im not interested in ordering any planes from HK....and i think the 27-36" ws is about right, although keeping it a bit smaller may help with slower flights around the quad track? Or do we set-up a Red Bull type track and go that way?!!! Ah the fun to come this summer!
If you want to fly 2204, you clearly have to use a Scythe
the Assassin is too heavy!!
