Re: Adding Flaps 1/4 Scale Cub

I've changed my mine so many times with the flaps it's silly. One thing that I'm wondering though, did you fly your Cub with floats?

Re: Adding Flaps 1/4 Scale Cub

When I did my BUSA 1/4 scale Cub, I followed basically what the Super Cub has.

The flaps are not split flaps, and they are just slightly (maybe 1/8") wider than the ailerons. They were cut that 1/8 deeper into the wing, so the trailing edge is still straight. Though a common width for ailerons & flaps would be fine and much easier to do.

That said, I never really found a real reason to use them - the Cub slows down really well - side-slips beautifully, & has plenty of its own drag.

Cheers,
Mike

Adding Flaps 1/4 Scale Cub

I'm building a BUSA J3 Cub and I'm wondering about adding flaps. What has everyone else done, do I need to cut the ribs deeper than what the ailerons are cut? Should I run standard flaps or give split flaps a try? Should add, this will by my first plane with "real" flaps rather than flaperons.
