Re: ALBERTA - Coronation Centennial Funfly July 30 & 31st, 2011

Just for clarification....

To celebrate Coronation's 100th birthday there will be a full scale aerial demonstration hosted by the Town of Coroantin on Sunday evening at the rodeo grounds about 1/2 mile east of the RC airfield (separate venue) by Barry Pendrak (RC airspace CLOSED during the aerial demonstration) and then fireworks in the evening. (which will be over the dam) More info about the things happening around town available at http://www.chc2011.ca

I will be there for sure.
Float plane, electric assist glider. I'm sure that could be an all up last down event.

I see Brent is already packed!

Just make sure you bring a float plane. We'll supply the canoe to get it back to shore

Ha Ha Too funny. This popped up in my email again.
Somehow I thought this was over and done with on June 30th! Now I see it is
July 3oth !
But, of course that was when I lost my glasses
Russ, do I need to wear my glasses to fly?

Just an update on the Funfly. Gates open @ 10am courtesy Mervin.
Rough camping on site, no services. There's lots of background activities going on Saturday that should keep dis-interested family members busy. Including a parade @ 11 am, Car show & shine after the parade running til 3 PM, and a mini market @ one of the arena's. There will also be some live entertainment in the evening. Also, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta will be in attendance @ some of the functions around town. AFAIK, that does NOT include the flying field (phew! )

Weather permitting we're going to try float flying Saturday evening. Plan on a full day of flying on Sunday. With the airfield closing just before the airshow starts about 3/4 mile east of Allard Field. There will be 2 aircraft flying the airshow, a Citabria and a Super Skybolt. The airshow will commence @ approximately 8:30. Once the airshow is finished. We'll have pretty close to front row seats for the fireworks!

It should be noted that we are making a BBQ available, but we are not able to provide meals because we can't locate a person with a Foodsafe certificate for the weekend.

Promises to be a great 'fly.

Maybe we could do a float fly on main street!

I would be up for that!

If it doesn't stop raining!

Oh Ok, Thanks Mervin. Looking at the photos, it appears that maybe they are building a
wildlife refuge for waterfowl?? Maybe go birdwatching while in the restaurant having coffee.
Should be full of water in a few days!!

Not sure why Russ built the big trench in the landing field. I would just bleed off
airspeed throughout the landing pattern and come in a bit slower !
Just to clear up a little misunderstanding about the location of the trench. It's on the road to the field. The town has promised to have it all finished by August!

Directions for Cassat OR from Edmonton ;)

Drive to Hobby Wholesale and then whip over to Great Hobbies, don't spend too much 'cause your next stop is travelling east on Alberta Hiway 14 @ Holden RC Hobby Hangar in Holden, Alberta. After saying hi to Perry @ Holden, you will continue on east to Kinsella, Alberta and then take 870 South to Lougheed to check out the strippers, too bad it's Friday not Tuesday. Giving up on the strippers, you proceed east on hiway 13 till you get to secondary 872. Travel south till you get to the Case IH on the left and the trailer park with the falling down fence on the right. Refer to map. Actually - if it's okay - maybe stop by Short Stop Liquor Store - say hi to Nicole or Brenda and pick yourself up a few cold ones for the Friday night campfire (not too many though, no drunken pilots allowed - sorry!)

Dave - my brother works extensively with Google Earth, he moves drilling rigs for a living and it can be an invaluable tool. Afriend of mine is an Environmental Technologist, he uses Google Earth for his job day in, day out, again sometimes oilfield related. AND YES Google Earth does show the road numbers. If you look carefully at the map I provided, you'll see it's a scan of a map made from OILTRAX. A product developed in Grande Prairie, Alberta (not Texas) for use with Garmin GPS's. Oiltrax's main selling feature is that it's keeps oilfield roads more up to date than most anything around. FYI, Coronation is findable on a Garmin device.
