Re: i got my rc wet, will it still work?

i brought my reciver to the hobby shop to have it checked out, it did short out and it wont work, he too noticed it came apart so he opend it up and notice that it was corodide in spots from over time (guess im not the only one who got it wet).
the servos are good, i pluged them into my buddy's cars reciver and they works.

i thank you for your offer but ive already taken the bigwig right apart. i was planning on keeping the hard to find parts (like the wheels). the electronics i plan to use in a different car (mabye a kit) not sure yet.

ive leard a very good leason tho, rc's and water dont go togther unless its water proof. and i plan on water proofing all my rc's for now on.

Hi,

Yes sir, water can really ruin an RC guy's day.But if you shut things down right away and dry everything out completely, it usually works out okay.

Your receiver may still have some moisture left inside it. If it does, it will cause your glitching problems. Or its possible that the servo that puffed smoke may be causing your problems.

Some of the older receivers can be opened up fairly easily[a few small screws on the bottom of the case] but without knowing which model your receiver is, I can't say for sure.

There should be a model number on the top of the case,if you post the number, I'll see if I can figure out how to open it up for you. Or I may have a spare receiver of the same model number[I've got a fair amount of older RC stuff that I got in a parts lot from another site member a few years back].

I'll also need to know what frequency it is, 27 or 75 mhz so I can see what I have that might work for you.
And if you post the model number and manufacturer of the servo that smoked, I might be able to match you up with a good working unit too.

And no worries about costs,All I'd want is enough to cover postage to your location.

HobbyKing will sell you their own branded 2.4ghz TX and RX combo for $20 plus shipping. It's what I use for my Savage, and it's surprisingly pretty good for a basic radio. As good as what most RTR cars come with these days. Just needs 8 AA batteries, which they sell for $1.29 per cell.

You've got an older radio system so we need to know what type it is. Is your frequency crystal ok?

If you want to water proof your receiver, the easiest thing is to either get a traxxas water proof receiver box or tape over the open areas then dip the receiver in plastidip.
