Re: Bud Barkley 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

That one looks like the newer G38 with electronic ignition. I think that he was thinking of the older magneto style which would weight more.

My dad has a Bud Barkley 1/4 Moth. He has a Zenoah G38, magneto spring start. It balances perfectly and flies like a "home sick angel"

Re: Bud Barkley 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

I used to fly a BUSA Fokker triplane with a G-45 (magneto) and it never quit on me! I've recently (last season) started running a G-62 with the magneto ignition in a BUSA 1/3rd scale Supercub. Just like you, I needed the extra weight. Once you know how to start the magneto equipped Zenoah (they DO NOT start like the EI motors!) I think you will really appreciate the solid reliable magneto motor! It is also nice not to have to worry about charging the ignition battery

They are certainly not the most powerful motors in their displacement class but everyone who has one will tell you how reliable and bullet proof they are!

I looked into MVVS however the total weight is not enough to balance my model.

Any thought about the MVVS line? They have some weight and are also very reliable engines and quite powerful.

I have a Quadra 35 in the same plane and while it is older technology it is a very dependable engine. It has a spring starter so it is easy to start. I have never had the G38 but have a G20, G26 and G62 and they are all good and dependable engines.

Good luck.

Bud Barkley 1/4 scale Tiger Moth

This model needs nose weight in order to balance. I'm looking to purchase the Zenoah 38 with the flywheel.
Is this a reliable engine or is it ancient technology?
