Good thought Jim!. It's been such a long time and I had forgotten about old solvent based glues...most likely that's what happened back then n it scared him to abandon this project....

Yeah I caught this past damage right away soon as received this model and knew I have to fix this issue first before moving forward.

I'm thinking about laying up bottom of the upper skin with 3/4oz cloth now that I can do it plus reinforce the spines and rails at the same time.

Dry installed a standard size servo in the original servo pocket already made in both wings. Both pockets needs to be opened up bit more for servo to fit in without touching the side walls and the wing skin.

Re: Marcel Mirage 2000D build

Here is the under side of the left wing. Retracts were installed much better in this wing as you can see. There is a lot of foam structure all around the retract rails and mounting spines. It still needs thin strip of foam right against the spines of the rails and little bit in between on the 4 inner corners. I had to cut out some foam where strut leg would fold in, reason being: More foam burned plus wheel wall was made much into the wing's root instead of it being in the belly of the fuselage.

Re: Marcel Mirage 2000D build

More thorough clean up has been done with removal of old access glue and worn out foam. Next step is to do the same on left wing then new foam pieces will fill all the open section. Instead of sheeting the new foam structure, since plan is to lay up carbon fiber cloth, this will be done directly on new foam and some on the balsa skin as well.
This is a step back but we'll worth it.

Re: Marcel Mirage 2000D build

After cleaning the skin and sanding the right wing's bottom surface that was left to do last time, I cut opened all around the retract rail where a lot of foam was missing under the wing skin. As it turns out previous owner who installed these retract rails somehow had burned off the foam in his installation method. It could be due to use of soldering gun or by dremel, who knows!. You can see how much foam is missing that should actually be there all around the rail and it's mountin spines. BTW retract rail and it's mount are solidly glued in the wing....

Re: Marcel Mirage 2000D build

Treated/cleaned uplease and un-treated lower wings!...

Gaps that you see will be filled from scrap 3/32" balsawood pieces. All low areas will also be filled with light weight spackle before carbon fiber weave cloth will be laminated on the retract rails and around the surrounding wing skin surface including capping up the spars.
