Re: JBA J15G engine problem

I tried Googling the engine but I could not come up with any pictures. I will send you a PM.

Kip, that makes sense in theory. I tried removing the piston to check the ring but couldn't get the piston out. What's the secret? Thanks man!

Re: JBA J15G engine problem

There should be a clearance of .001" to .003" on the piston skirt with the piston all the way down. That is about the thickness of a piece of paper. Put some high detergent 10 weight oil in the cylinder to free up the ring. It might take a couple of days. With the head off turn the engine over with some oil on top of the piston. Is the ring leaking or is it at the ring gap. On one engine I just replace the ring and it cured it. They had the wrong ring in it. Check where the head seals to the cylinder, it must be perfectly clean and no marks, not even a scratch. A lot of engines have a soft aluminum gasket that goes between them. The compression is going somewhere.

JBA J15G engine problem

Hi Guys!

I bought an apparently used JBA 15cc gasoline engine about a year ago. The gentleman had bought it from someone else who had supposedly run it on the bench and that's it . The guy I bought it from said he hadn't even taken it out of the box. Anyway, I tried running it on the bench today and it didn't work at all. The cdi works fine on it (tested it...) but there seems to be no compression. In fact, I can slightly wobble the piston back and forth inside the sleeve after taking the head off. It actually doesn't even look like it was run at all and I fear the original owner realized it may be a defective engine and sold it under false pretenses. My bad, but is there any way to salvage it? Would replacing the ring have any effect? Any advice would be appreciated!!
