Re: Cub needs float alignment experienced opinion

Singleminded PMed about the flight calc link. Sorry I tried to get it through the site filters a few times without success. You have to go to a site that uses " radio control info" for the www address. It is a dot com. No spaces between the words. There is no other way to put this address in a post without the site filters blocking it. I hope you can figure out how to get to the site and then use the menus to find the floatcalc. I tried a PM but maybe your mail is full. Bob

Oh and the spray pic of the cub taxi on water says it all. I have two access covers for mine and I have recovered one and did not cut out the holes. I have also put flaps of covering over the exits of the push rods as the original owner cut them out a bit large.
The Carbon Cub is amazing with floats and knife edges (snow got too deep for the ski's). The piper was the only one that continued to fly on ski's all winter, but I did some float flying with it as well just for fun.

Good luck this summer and post some pics

Thanks again Tomahawk, that is a very informative reference site for me.

They do throw a bit of splash as seen in my link https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/albu...pictureid=5920 I cover my holes in the bottom hatch before float flying as I have toasted an esc due to spray.

I believe the floats can be predrilled and still locate correctly on any 25 size plane as long as the plane has been built with the landing gear locations provided for those floats and gear. But you know how assuming the manufacturer has it right can turn around and bite.
When I get an arf I expect nothing more than a reasonably well assembled and covered airframe. The rest is up to me to verify, experiment with, and re-engineer. For me, that's part of the flight. By the time it's in the air, I know it like a pilot would.
Hi Fixer. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have been doing a little more digging and found a review over on RC Groups with video. I was able to find a close up pic of your floats on Horizon and the holes are pre-drilled by the manufacturer like Just a Wannabe mentions above.
Your Cub is discontinued by Horizon but most parts are still available.
Watching the video and it looks like you won't need any spray rails either.
You could hear a little buzzing from the float spray into the prop during take off but nothing to really concern yourself about.
I would post the video here but it isn't on Youtube. You have to download it.
Here is a link to the review on RC Groups.

P.S. All this discussion and watching the videos has me itching to go float flying now!

I have been looking at spray rails too, I don't see how you can get away without them.
If you have positive incidence in your stab it looks like you have the exception and need to use the Longitudinal Reference Line to measure your CG.

Being your Cub is an ARF. Don't the floats come with pre-drilled locations?
I was looking at the manuals on-line for the Cub, Beaver and Stick that these floats attach to and they don't mention any actual measuring so I am assuming the floats have the attachment locations marked and are correct for your plane.
