Re: New Magnum .52 gasser

No news since 2010, placed an order at global, never received or payed, called and was told they had no projected delivery date.
Still shows out of stock at http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php...category/2815/

There is the NGH GT-9 from http://www.agaperacingandhobby.com/v...?productid=450

They are promising delivery after march.

Of course there is the Saito gas http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...ne-as-SAIEG14B

Re: New Magnum .52 gasser

So, nearing 2 years since this engine was first talked about...

Has anyone bought one, and replaced a .46 glow with it? I have been out of the loop so to speak since my son was born last year. Still kind of busy to devote too much time to RC, but I was thinking of this recently.

Anyone?

I also have been trying to get a Saito .82 gasser for testing but nothing yet. I would be interested to know how it compares to the glow version of the .82, which I have tested.

I have a Saito FG14 .82 that I haven't run yet. Which props did you test the glow version with?

I also like to see proof so here is all the parts on a scale.

I'd be happy to wait till you get one and see your results. I don't buy engines to see how they perform, I buy them to fly and with some very good people out there that I trust I tend to make good decisions. Sometimes that requires some sifting but I prefer that then getting a lemon.

It's all good.
It is all good.. I also dont buy engines to see them perform, heck I am a modeler and I fly everything I buy. However I do test a lot of engines so I have quite a lot of info on various weights, performance levels on various props, etc to go by on comparing them.

So, back to waiting for the .52 to come out..

Re: New Magnum .52 gasser

And I ask again... do you own and fly a DLE20 or is this just talking about what you read on RCU? It means a lot to me. I hate discussing engine specifics with guys who havent even had one in their hands.

Personally I only state info on engines that I have run, and placed on my scale. That way, I know exactly what I say is true. I have found - especially with some on RCU - the figures tend to get enhanced or de-enhanced at times, depending on who's posting about what.

Re: New Magnum .52 gasser

Most reputable shops I can find are advertising the bare engine & muffler weight as 29 and change.

That is why I dont believe anything until I get it on MY scale.

The DLE 30 weighs 39 ounces, everything except battery.

The DLE 20 has numbers close to the OS 120ax. Great news for us.

By the way, that 29 ounce weight is the engine and muffler ONLY. Add the weight of the ignition unit and battery pack and the mid to higher 30's is what you are going to get minimum.

And, in a small aircraft, every additional "few ounces" adds up.

Again, dont get me wrong, I am ALL for small gasoline engines. I love them! Clean, cheap fuel and easier to run (no need for starter, etc).

However I like to talk specifics and in a small plane, say 5 to 8 pounds, forgetting to add the weight of something seemingly small as an ignition, battery and wiring/switch can add up to 10% of the plane's weight - which is substantial.

Good discussion though.
