Re: What's in Your Hobbico NexStar?

I searched on Google for "nexstar electric conversion" and this was the first video,

Shows two hatches on the cowling and the windshield that I'll copy for the same reasons.

I'm going to skip replacing the cheeks with the cowl and have my AXI 2826/10 cengtered over the fuel tank hole plus put in a couple more drill holes to get air into the fuselage.

One thing I did with the fuselage when I unbagged it today was to peel the OS/Futaba decal off of the left-hand side of the fuselage -- worked enough of it off at the trailing edge so that I could fold it back against itself and then pull it back to the nose rather then pulling it off at right angles.

Tomorrow night will be the two hatch openings plus putting in the 1/64th strips to keep the hatches from falling into the holes when I put them back.

Will also get the heat gun out and try taking out all the wrinkles in the wing.

I'm looking for the same info. I just acquired all the the electric components for the conversion. There must me be someone out there that has gone this route. I will keep looking and if I find some info I will report back in this thread.

I'm looking for inforamtion on whether or not to use the e-version cowling or stick with the stock location/cheeks, plus where to put the hole for accessing the battery pack other than taking the wing off after every flight.

Thanks in advance.

Spring has arrived in the GTA for the third time in a week...... all the dog owners are out picking up poo from the lawns..... in between the days with the snowstorms.

Hi Byro. I'm not going to insist a 32 won't fly - I just don't believe it will fly it with any authority. I fly an eflite 32 a fair bit - 7 batteries today in an eflite ultra-stick 25. It will fly on a 25 and I have done so, but it's soft. The 32 gives me more of what the stick was made for. I converted the NexStar and went straight for the 45. I was, after all, replacing an OS 46. It gives ample power to get you out of trouble. You've bought the 32 - try it out - but be ready for a change.

The specs look comparable, or am I reading them wrong? I'm not going to run big props and the 32 is described as being suitable for a 7-pound airplane, which is the weight of this bird. The Rimfire posting on towerhobbies describes the motor as being a ".32".

Byro, is the 32 for your Nexstar? If so, don't think it's enough. 46 Would be more appropriate.

Re: What's in Your Hobbico NexStar?

Thanks, Tyler. I got over to Great Hobbies in MIssissauga this afternon to use the gift card that I'd gotten just before Christmas (TREMAC door prize for their holiday get-together). Picked up 4 servoes and an Eflite 32 motor. Since I hadn't taken notes with me on the product codes (inventory numbers, whatever) of the cheaper packs, I didn't get any.

Still got a couple months before spring really gets going, so I can shop around (Pinnacle, A&J, Ideal are the three closest plus there's a few others including Great Hobbies -- it's a 45-minute run one way so not a quick jaunt on the way home.)

If I can get over to Great Hobbies in Mississauga this weekend, I'll pick up a couple of servoes and 2 5s 5000mah packs.
That setup listed is pretty solid. Should give you flight times in excess of 15 minutes, I'm thinking. My old 5s setup was a pure aerobatic performer and could fly a 5s 5000 for 12 minutes with a 15x8. With a small prop like that, you'll barely be pulling any amps, so it should fly a good long time on that!

There were a couple great podcasts from All Things That Fly about batteries, etc. just before Christmas. Make sure you check them out as well.
