Re: Flushing Fuel System

The flames and bit of smoke are normally just seen on the first run where there may be some bubbles in the system and perhaps a little keromix that got in the combustion chamber. Subsequent runs should produce smoother starts. You have the kerostart right?

As for the overshoot. Prior to cleaning the filters the pump may have been slowly increasing the voltage to get to the max rpm. Now that the system has been cleaned and is more free flowing the pump needs some time to readjust. Normally on the first start of an engine I slowly advance the throttle to allow the ecu / pump to match..afterwards you can slam the stick as much as you want. Again on subsequent runs the max rpm should come down.

No worries a momentary 126K will not harm the P70.

Re: Flushing Fuel System

Thanks Dean,
I'm going to have to get a shirt that says that LOL

In conversation yesterday I noted that the max RPM recorded was 126,100
I also noted that there were flames on start up and a fair amount of smoke. (Smoke may have just been residual oil) I decided to reduce the U-accelr1 from 2.0 to 1.75 ( I have not restarted yet)

Questions:
The U-accelr2 is not defined. I originally assumed it was start up flow for the burner but looking at the numbers I'm guessing top RPM?

Re 126,100 RPM instead of 123,000 is that a concern?

Thanks
Steve

Re: Flushing Fuel System

No problem with that. Just make sure that the open end of the needle is is not stuck into the side wall of the tubing and that there are no kinks in any of the lines. Otherwise the universe will be out of balance! lol

cheers

Re: Flushing Fuel System

Thanks Dean,

I took my time and reassembled it with great care. It went well but no matter what I tried, in the end the new line is resting against the inside of the outer cover.

Should be okay no?

Re: Flushing Fuel System

Sorry for not getting back earlier. The needle is VERY IMPORTANT. It is what lubricates the bearings. Be absolutely certain that there is no blockage. It does take quite a bit of pressure but a small drop should come out of the tip. You can open up the filter to check clean then reassemble. Place a small wipe of grease on the fine threads of th efilter this will ensure that you don't cross thread and you have a proper seal.

Re: Flushing Fuel System

Hi Ron,
I purchased one of the filter funnels, after seeing this crud I'm glad I did.

First run today was a success for me. Not near as stimulating as the first time I started my PST though! Kero start is nice!

It's going to be a great year!
