Good to hear the maiden went well. It's always nice when it stays in one piece! lol

Pleased to report that the P-40 maidened this morning at the Gimli Model Fest field. All the pieces stayed on so we are just waiting for the wind to drop for a second flight.

A magnificent spring day in Winnipeg, the P-40 was started in the back yard for an engine test run, the DL-50 ran good. 6900 rpm on a menz 22x8.

Only two snags, undercarriage goes up on the down switch ( need to reverse dat) and the fuel tank was still half fuel when the pump started to suck air on emptying.

Hopefully a test flight in two or three weeks!

Weight and balance today on the P-40. Lead needed was 1lb, 4 oz. for a C of G balance point 3.5" behind the leading edge with undercarriage in the up position.

Thus the total all up weight, with no fuel is 24 lb. 11 oz. (Fuselage is 15# - 11oz including the lead, the wing weighs 9# - 0oz).

This is comparable to what the other Skyshark P-40 are coming in at and in the same ball park weight as my Top Flite P-51's so I'm ok with the weight.

Engine runs are next, maybe in May the snow will be gone, it's been a brutal winter in Winnipeg.
cheers - ken

Re: Stocky Edwards RCAF P-40 by Skyshark

I'm using a HK nanotech 1600mah LiFe 2s pack on ignition with a diode to drop down the voltage to the DL ignition module.

Lt. Dan put on to this $5.00 pre-made diode extension lead from http://www.badbradgraphics.com/photo_23.html

I like this piece of kit from Bad Brad, as all I know about electronics is not to let out the magic blue smoke out.

I used this diode extension last year on a couple of planes with no problems.
cheers!
