I understood that previous post as you were flying at a park, meaning public park, people playing soccer, walking dogs that sort of park
It is inside city limits, it is a city park, joggers, trails, toboggan hill, event building at the base of the hill, paved walk ways all around and up the hill couple large duck ponds, and large public parking lot at the bottom. One access road to the top kept locked except for maintenance and when we were using the area as a field.

Nope we all act like adults and follow the rules same as at our home field, the quad gym for indoor, the two float fly sites and when we used the Leamington Airport for our one large event each year. We had a few that continually flaunted the rules so we put in place the ability for the club to remove/refuse membership and those fellows no longer belong. If your club cannot maintain the level of safety to keep a field there isn’t much backbone among the membership.

After several years we gave up the field at the old landfill as it became a prime spot for all major running events in the city. Setting up and putting away the 9 or so signs at the entrances to the plateau required quite a bit of walking for one or two flyers so the site only got used occasionally. At the end with there being more and more conflicts with events on weekends it was decided not to renew the ageement.

Chances are if you fly in a park and not cause a problem no one is going to complain. No complaint no reason for an officer to go out of his way to call you on it. Can he? Absolutely. Draw attention to the fact you’re breaking a bylaw he has the tools to deal with you. The path he chooses is the officer’s discretion. Same as an officer stopping you for speeding. Warning, ticket for the offence or reduced ticket so you don't lose points.

Are you really having a hard time comprehending this?????????? I mean even our 12/13 year old members in the club get it when they ask if they can fly their foamies at the local park.

no doubt, but no one has come up with any ideas or solutions in these 5 pages. Even the governments have been caught flat footed and don't know how to handle this. This is a huge issue worldwide without a solution (so far)

Take our hobby. How many of you started out with free flight/control line? RC was a pipe dream when I was a kid. I didn’t know MAAC existed but a few of us flew regularly at the corner park. Started when I was 11/12 and flew off and on until I left home and went in the Airforce. In all that time there must have been a couple dozen kids come and go and some adults as well. We never interfered with other users of the park and heaven forbid hurt or endanger others. Police Officers would often sit in their cars at the curb and watch us.

Skip to a few summers ago and there is now 3 or four baseball diamonds in that park. It’s used for tournaments over weekends during the summer. During one of these tournaments a father and two sons ages 9/10 or so pull up and park, climb out with the two family dogs not on leashes and the kids have a couple of those air hogs. I saw at least three times these air hogs ended up in the infield stopping the game. The umpire finally walked over and explained that the gentleman needed to take the kids, dogs and the airplanes to the other side of the park where there were no games being played. He refused after all it’s a public park. Umpire called the game until a police officer attended the scene and made the father and sons leave.

The problem isn’t the drones/uav’s or whatever you want to call them. It’s the mentality or lack thereof the operators who are so self centered they have no consideration for others. They ruin it for us and for the responsible drone/uav operators.

Ask yourself which one are you?????????

Dennis
Dennis, like you, I have been in the hobby for what seems like forever (40 years now) and I even made a living in the industry for 25 years.

I do not own a "drone" and have absolutely zero desire to own, or, for that matter, even fly one.

I think we have to accept the fact that there are millions of these things out there in various sizes and configurations when it comes to technology, in short, the genie is out of the bottle. In this group of millions, there will be a minority that will make a$$es of themselves and cause trouble.....but it seems that every time one of these guys make the news someone can't resist coming on to this (and other) forums with 'the sky is falling' threads.....who really cares at this point?

I'm of the opinion (and it is only my opinion) that this has nothing to do with organized RC flying that we have known to be the norm over the decades. These guys are a group all their own.

Just my opinion though.....ron

Again and your point being??????? I wasn't there I only have your word on some ambiguous transgression at a single club. It still doesn’t invalidate all the good work at the other clubs. If that club has a problem it has to learn how to address it. We don't have any safety police I am aware of.
I know if I was uncomfortable with the level or lack of safety I would find somewhere else to fly.

The time I have seen municiple bylaw enforcement can be counted on one hand and the times we have requested it for our street parking problem and the have actually shown up is pitiful

You must get excellent service
