I beg your pardon ; Yes I did a test with the motor not connected and all I got was flashing lights on the ESC board. It needs to have a motor connected . Thanks for the correction.

Re: Problems with ESCs

Check the bullet connectors on the motor. Sometimes rosin from the soldering gets into the gold fingers and actually ends up insulating the pins. Try rotaing the fingers on the connector and clean them with acetone. This is more common then most people realize.

Re: Problems with ESCs

Easy check is to look at the solder job on both sides of the plugs between the ESC and MOTOR. I have repeatedly seen very weak solder jobs there.

Measuring the wiring to the motor will likely not tell you much, especially if the motor does not light off. The previous posts are correct, the ESC sends signals to the motor to make the bell vibrate to generate the beeping sounds. Once it initializes and arms it will sit there until time to rotate.

The fact you have the beeps means you have continuity to the motor on at least two of the three phases. The quick beeping cycle typically means the ESC does not like the input signal from the Rx. The usual suspects are throttle channel reversed or the end points incorrect. For some reason Futaba needs the throttle channel reversed. You do have the ESC plugged into Channel #3 or "Throttle"? Any other channel and it can give you the problem you described, although I have never left one long enough to see if the beeps fade away.

WARNING: Do not install the propellor until you get this sorted.

Re: Problems with ESCs

From the voice of experience. It's not your ESC. Your motor is the issue. had this happen to me about a month ago while indoor flying after a crash. Broken wire inside the motor...

Re: Problems with ESCs

A melody usually means that it's in programming mode...try plugging it in with your stick at full throttle...after the melody ends, move the stick to 0 throttle and see what happens.

It sounds very odd that the melody faded away...I have never heard of that.
Luke is correct...the melody is coming from the motor...as are the beeps...via the ESC of course.
Good luck.

Re: Problems with ESCs

Many thanks to those who replied to my thread on ESCs. To answer some of the questions raised; the motor is an HDX 300 and the ESC is a hobbywing 40 amp. I am retired and while I have done a fair amount of electronics in the past a good deal is now forgotten. I can easily test the voltage of the battery under load but am not sure about the amperage the motor is drawing. I don't think my multi-meter has a high enough amps range.

Do you know the motor and ESC make/model? Additional info may help...

Re: Problems with ESCs

In a few cases, I have found some esc/motor combinations will not arm, unless you either give the throttle some negative trim or give some negative to the throttle in the programming subtrim.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but it is worth a quick test.
