I am still learning, just hopefully not making the same mistakes over and over - hehe.
By using higher C rated batteries, the voltage will be higher, and amps slightly lower for the same throttle settings. Each volt supplied increases rpm of the motor by it kv - less load. Eg an increase of 1 volt on a 400kv motor will increase the rpm by 400, less the load so typical is 80% so rpm increase will be 320.
If it took say 6000 rpm at 40 a to maintain flight, the higher c will use use 38a to give the same 600rpm.
Iam now using 50% as my decision point for selecting the C rating. EG If my motor can draw 50A, then I want a battery that deliver 100A minimum.
I stick as close as possible to these numbers. fwiw flytwice

Personally, I'd be switching out the 20C batteries for some 40C's. The 20c just can't deliver the goods when drawing 50A, IMHO.
As you suggested, the pitch determines the flight speed. Your plane should fly easily at 1/2 throttle. Having to run at 3/4 tells me you need a little more pitch. Nice job on the conversion, looks good. On my 8ft Turbo Beaver (15 lbs,4ozs) wing load was around the 35oz mark, she flew very scale at 1/2 throttle with a 15/8 /3 blade on 6S (440kv).
You can extend your flight times out to 3600mah use without issues, the higher C rated batteries would help there. fwiw flytwice

Thanks Hugh! Its a wonderful scale plane to fly.
Sam, I'll try to get you some pics this weekend. The plane is on wheel/skis right now,
PM me your email.

Hi Nathan, haven't heard from Ron lately so had wondered how the Otter was coming along. Beautiful job on the plane, far better than anything I could have done on it. Great to see it in the air where it belongs.

Pictures will be great to have, I can always use good side shots to get length of the nose by measuring it with another part of the fuselage as reference...

What is the length of nose on your model past firewall?

I have saved few pictures but goggling but nothing close enough from certain angles as modellers would need.

Im not to sure sam, but the pt-6 will be a tad shorter, and the intakes are different. Some googling should find you sone decent pics. The pt-6 has the exhaust stubs just behind the prop as a gdneral rule ( although so does the walter conversion). If you want some specific pics, let me know. Theres a turbine otter (pt-6) just up the street from me.

Re: Unionville Otter 8'

Well Nathan I ended up with a 8' DHC 3 Otter as of today. A friend wanted it for a while and bugged me to find him one framed up aircraft, so recently I found one and after he looked at it today, he said it's more then he could deal with it, which baffled me coz model it's all built up, all it needs scale flaps and aileron made for right side wing as left side has these flights controls already built and installed with mechanical tubes controlling them plus covering the model basically...

Now that this model has become mine so i'm thinking on making PT-6 turbo prop nose for it, can you tell me the difference in lengths between your Garret nose and PW PT-6 nose?
