NO, NO, Not a screwdriver use a piece of spruce or plywood. A screwdriver usually damage the cylinder.

Re: Super Tigre GS-40 Ring Replacement

If the sleeve is stuck you can use heat on the alloy till it comes free, but an easier way to lift the liner is to stick a flat screwdriver into the exhaust port to rest against the top of the piston. CAREFULLY turn the crank till the screwdriver hits the top of the exhaust port and it should lift it till it hits the top of the opening. This will give you enough to grab the cylinder sleeve. Just do not force anything.

If everything is stuck together soaking overnight in a crock pot full of glycol is one of the best methods to clean everything out and free the bits.

A new ring can be had from Frank Bowman Rings if you have difficulty locating a replacement. His list of engines is quite extensive.

All this is moot if there is any substantial shoulder in the sleeve. If there are signs of wear a new ring may bind and break at TDC.

you must carefully pull out the cylinder liner, which will then leave you the room to slide the connecting rod off the crank pin and remove the piston/rod from the engine.

Super Tigre GS-40 Ring Replacement

I have a Super Tigre GS-40 that needs a ring replacement. I have removed the cylinder head and back plate, but I don't see how to get the piston out. Has anyone ever done this? Would appreciate all the help I can get!

Thanks - Ed
