You don't need to justify it man... I have two of these, new in box waiting to be built myself.

As far as I know the kit includes optional mounting plates to fit 25g servos, 1600kv motor should be just fine with the proper gearing and 70a esc should be more than sufficient.

hifly2104, not sure why you mentioned 450...

And I am not trying to be cheap here guys, please understand. I will be bulding my flagship shortly which is a Compass 6HV and FBL. Spent a ton on that project but then because I have spares like motor, esc, cyclic servos, tail servo, gyro, couple orangerx receivers and ubec AND because I like to build these things I decided to get something that is different from 500 clones, is cheap, has cheap parts, flies well, no issues out of box and I can dump it into dirt without regrets trying to learn 3D. Gaui 425 Basic is the perfect kit for that. That's all there's to it.

Re: Which LHS sells Gaui 425 Basic kit in GTA?

There are ways to get the mini servos from a regular 500 to fit the gaui if needed and you're only talking the cyclic servos; the esc, bec, motor, receiver, gyro and tail servo can all be used with no issues.

The reason gaui used the same frame for both was obviously for cost, some people I'm sure prefer a heli swinging smaller blades. Remember that the 425 came out after the 550 so change a few parts and boom.. you're good.

This was also not a Gaui innovation, the Raptors, from what I remember, had the same thing between the .30 and .50.

This is just something I wanted to put together as a side project from all the extra 500 electronics I collected over time playing around and trying things. And then use it as a beater. That's why I really don't want to spend anything more than $80 on the kit. I've had enough of the Align clones and want to try something different and see how that goes.
Well unless they make two 425's your 500 parts won't fit this bird . 425 is the approx size of the main blade nothing like the Trex 450 have no idea where any of those numbers come from. Ok I have a 550 Hurricane which going by the parts catalog can be shortened down to a 425. Not sure why you would want to do that but it can be done. Now the 425/550 all use standard size servos which are quite different from a Trex 500 servo. I bought two of these 550 over a year ago,one from HKing the other from Rotor Tech. The one from HK came with motor and esc. Had to buy everything else and have it shipped from Hong Kong. This all took place in about 2/3 weeks. Can't remeber the exact price but it was more than the package from Rotortech. This package included everything but tail servo and gyro and receiveryes even shipping was included and had it in less than a week.. They carry usually a full stock of replacement parts, well everything except Tailboom supports. Guess I should email them and see how mine are coming on B/O

Actually, rotortechs price on the 550 light combo is actually lower than flying-hobby. I think that's a great deal.

Your best bet is to order the Gaui 425 from www.allerc.com
They are in the USA
Parts support can be an issue since they are manufactured in taiwan or Asia, so best
to order spare parts with it...main gears, tailboom, skids, etc
I agree, it is an economy heli for a budget as not everyone can afford an Align 600 esp
or a 500 machine.

I understand the shipping cost fustration ... BUT you really need to look at what some of the North American vendors are selling kits/parts for and then look at the Asian vendors, I have yet to find a NA vendor that comes in cheaper or even close including shipping ... and it's a damn shame that an Asian vendor can get us something cheaper then a NA vendor with shipping ... and we wonder why the LHS is disappearing I mean even if they bought these kits bulk from Asia and charged 10%-15% more then what the Asian retail them for they would do good but to charge almost double .... just angers me
