Now how did you carved turbine fan blades on turbo hatch fairings...
The blades are individually cut out of 1/64" plywood. I chiseled out the circle in the piece of balsa to about 3/16" deep and then glued the blades in one at a time.

It is so nice out I decided to let the P-38 catch some sun! It's getting there slowly, the underside of one boom is still not planked but that is the last major construction component. Next is the fairings and scoops, then sanding, filling, finishing.

Thanks! There are very few images of the exhaust for this plane which makes sense because they are on top of the plane and would be hard to get access to. Most of my references were small plastic models...and those vary a lot. More updates over the next couple days, the pile of balsa blocks is almost gone!

The hatch for the center pod is almost done, it blended into the pod really nice. I'm working on getting the throttle servos mounted today, they are going to have to be sealed into the fuel tank compartments. While not ideal from a maintenance standpoint it really is the best location and I'm ok with needing to cut open the sheeting if they ever need replacing.

So I need to play around with different grits and see if I can get a better result. I also have half a roll of the chrome Monokote left which I will test. The rivets are being marked with a soldering iron. I made a tip for it with descending sizes of brass tubing fitted into one another, the smallest is 1mm I think. It takes the slightest touch to make the mark.

Re: Marutaka P-38 build thread

While the glue on the hatch is drying, I'm playing around with the chrome ultracote. I'm giving it a sanding with 600 grit before applying it to give it that unpolished Aluminum look. The ultracote has the slightest texture to it, almost orange peel like, which when you sand it becomes super visible......
