Cularis is one of the best sail planes out there. I love mine. You did a nice job on the colour scheme heres mine

Re: Yet another Cularis

Soaring can be very relaxing UNTIL it gets a bit to small to see properly. When I start to worry I add in some down trim & head back towards me & the wind (or breeze).

Re: Yet another Cularis

Finally got some decent weather yesterday, though a little chilly, and got some flights in- pretty much what I was expecting and really fun. Had a helluva time with orientation at distance in the dark sky though- probably time for another eye checkup. I'll blame the abrupt end to the second flight on that. Fortunately no damage to speak of.
I went out again this morning (alone this time) and it was just beautiful at the sod farm, sunny and windless. I used full crow-braking for the landings today and it sure works well- recommended settings from Multiplex were used and no change in pitch occurred with deployment. In fact, using the settings in the manual, nothing seemed to need much changing other than some down trim in normal flight mode, probably to counteract the slight reflex I have on the ailerons. I'm liking this E-glider stuff and can't wait for summer!
Here's a short video from yesterday- Jack keeps turning the camera on me (as I nervously chomp on gum) to try and figure out how the zoom works, which I explained wrong.

Re: Yet another Cularis

I had one this spring. New to the gliders. Had no clue how to find thermals. Then once...I noticed my Cularis started rising and rising. Also noticed seagulls in the same area floating around. Then it clicked....next time im up...look for the seagulls and head toward them....bingo....always hit the thermals they were riding.

Re: Yet another Cularis

One of our members had one but it was set up as a pure glider rather than an e-glider. That was some years ago.

There are some huge threads on the Cularis on many of the forums. Very popular with the FPV and the photography crowd. That is why I asked your intent. A lot of people buy e-gliders but don't fly them as e-gliders.

Re: Yet another Cularis

Yes, I've read that- thought I'd start at the specified CG and work back from there. Have you experience with a Cularis?

Re: Yet another Cularis

OK, thermal soaring. One tip from an dedicated glider pilot is that you will likely want to move the CG back from the stock position. How much will vary by pilot but in most cases the stock CG is too far forward for good thermal soaring.

Re: Yet another Cularis

Interesting question- I certainly won't fly it around like an airplane, got airplanes for that. If there's lift to be found, and I can develop the skills to find it, then as a thermal machine. No suitable slopes in the immediate vicinity but with a little travel, who knows?- that's another facet of gliding I'd like to explore.
I think (hope) this model will be a relaxing alternative to some of my others, particularly the fast EDF's that represent a fair investment of time and money.

Re: Yet another Cularis

How do you plan to fly it?

Thermal soaring?

Slope soaring?

Keep the motor running and fly it like an airplane?
