Re: Big brother is watching Hmmm... 1909, one could get heroin at any drug store over the counter, and it was 1947 when they outlawed marijuana; many other drugs were readily available, and used for legitimate purposes. Then the same stupid people who gave us liquor prohibition decided that, now liquor was now legal, they needed another target: drugs!! Funny, I think we will end up with the same results ie, government controlled and taxed. The only ones to suffer when that happens will be the gangs... |

Re: Big brother is watching Isn't meth use a big problem in Taiwan? I thought I seen a documentary that said construction workers there use it to keep going for days on end. |

BTW, John's (The Techinical Director at the time) was right. My skills are not up the to level needed for a national team member. My initial response was a smirk and sarcastic remark about it being the last time I bring Screech or London Dock as a gift..... (living in Newfoundland at the time). Did get my revenge on the next trip -- I brought along Cabot Tower Rum -- ever tried sword-swallowing with a bastard rasp file -- nasty nasty stuff. |

Re: Big brother is watching If FAI does it the same way that archery has been doing it (FITA, FCA) then it won't have much of an affect on lower levels at all. They'll only pick out the top national flyers that regularly participate at international events or happen to set some sort of sanctioned record. At least that's what I was told by a friend that competed @ national level. |

Re: Big brother is watching You've missed the point in the article. The FAI covers sporting aeronautics from RC to full scale. It may not effect you or I but I'm sure the red bull racers for instance would be greatly effected. |

ronnieo - not so sure about that, I'd bet everyone could fly a bit better juiced up on beta blockers. Here a link to the list. There's some pretty mundane things on there, such as asthma meds which I'm pretty sure would raise cain with finger dexterity but improve lung capacity. So running to get out of the way wouldn't be a problem after you lose control due to the flowvent induced shakes http://www.wada-ama.org/en/World-Ant...ohibited-List/ |

Re: Big brother is watching This is as ridiculous as having competition doping tests for major chess events, basket weaving , pie eating, and spelling bees... stupid as the shoes on Forest Gump. |

Re: Big brother is watching Depending upon the sport and the level of the event, this has been going on in 99% of all sports for decades. No surprise to me. I went the to 1976 Olympics in Montreal as an official for fencing, and there were a few incidents with doping that had us all laughing. Not the usual "so-and-so flubbed the test", but who went to the bathroom and then had their name drawn for random spot-checking. The more notorious one was a Japanese fencer who was the first one finished in his pool and packed up and went to the bathroom. While he was there, the reps from doping control showed up and called his name. One of his team-mates rushed off and found him just finishing up. Apparently, the words translate generally as "oh, crap!" Fencer then spent his afternoon working up enough "juice" to fill the cup while his team-mates had the day off to be tourists. Rule of thumb that we all learned that day: stay until the end of the pool and everyone's finished just in case your name is drawn. Of course, I was taking steroids under doctor's orders at the time for a medical condition, and I asked the Technical Director for the Canadian Fencing Association what would happen if I got called up for doping control. His response really popped my ballon: "You'll never be in an event where doping control is done." |
