Re: Tables with wings!

Hi Guys;

I built 5 of these for our club a few years ago and at first they weren't used and now there is a fight to get them.

I see some of the width mods and really they can't be the answer to everything, they are supposed to be start up/set up tables. We also have hooks on the uprights for transmitters. We also have a couple of working tables between the stands. They are about 3'x3' and have 2 wheels. The guys roll them around as needed and put all of their extra stuff on them.

One mod I haven't noticed in the pictures is a wheel/wheel pant stop at the back of the table about 1.5 " high, along the section where the wheels go. I never put them on the original design and came out to the field one day shortly after they were built, and they were put on by someone. When I asked why, I was told that one of the guys had his engine start backwards, didn't react soon enough and you know the rest of the story. It's really a good mod!

Re: Tables with wings!

After we found the stolen table we decided against wheels, I would just tip them on their face to mow underneath.

Also note: if you build them using TREX they will not absorb fuel or water.
(they will cost more and weigh though)

Re: Tables with wings!

was at the field and forgot my camera tomorow is "work day" at the field, we are getting together to fix up stuff at the field, and maybe do a little flying.

I will try to remember my camera.

or you could always come to our field, bring a plane and try them yourself the gate is never locked! and you can find a map on the MAAC site (Patricia Region Aero Modelers, MB/NW Ont Zone

Re: Tables with wings!

Just in case anyone didn't catch seeing them, our verticals have small "C" hooks that are screwed in on the side and face for hanging radios. You can see the transmitters on the hooks in the first and second pics above. This is a cheap and quick add-on that anyone can do.

Yes please!!! I would like to see them.

Keswick also had a nice TX stand that was simply a piece of 3/8" x2" x8" long wood attached to the vertical post on a 45 degree angle, 2" of the wood was above the post and the remainder below the post.

You slipped the TX handle down over the wood and it stopped against the vertical post, holding the TX at the perfect angle. I have a pic of that but it is not very good. Maybe someone from KMAC would be kind enough to post a better one??

Re: Tables with wings!

looks like a fine idea.

At our field we have made a few start stands and one feature we included was a Transmiter Stand.

on the uprights that keep your plane frome moving ahead, there is a small piece of abs pipe, and there is a transmitter tray that has a "peg" on the bottom to fin in the pipe, the TX tray is built at an angle of about 30 deg. and swiveles, to face the front for starting and to the rear for tuning or other jobs. This keeps your radio from falling off the table, and you can move around the plane and use both hands for tuning etc.

The only down side is we need to remember to take them off the posts and put them upside down when we are not flying, the birds seem to think they make good crappers and poop on them!

I'll try to remember to take some pic's next time I am out there for you folks.

Re: Tables with wings!

I like it!!!!

Thanks for posting.

Our club also has about a dozen of these tables. If we need to build any more, this would be the version I would build!
