Re: Definition of 'roller'

Hah! The definitions used by most are varied for everything.

RTR is even worse than roller. To me RTR means everything is included, INCLUDING the battery and charger (even if they are cheap nimh ones). You see people listing something "RTR, only needs radio, receiver, batteries and charger".... then it's not really RTR is it? It's ARTR.... It's basically the sellers idea of marketing, get them in the door first (in this case open the ad) then tell them the bad news....

Thanks guys. It's good to see I'm not alone in my observations in the vast variation of the definition.

Earl, I agree, I think it's best to list everything coming with it so there are no surprises. I think describing the condition of the car is also very important.

Re: Definition of 'roller'

Anybody selling an RC car or truck that is not completely stripped of electronics should show some courtesy to their prospective buyers and list what all electronics are included.

Describing one's sale as ready-to-run (RTR) or bind-and-drive (BND) is inadequate as well.....as there is a huge quality/performance (and thus price) price for servos, receivers, ESC's and motors.

The ONLY exception there might be to this thinking is if one were selling a STOCK RTR as it comes from the manufacturer.

Re: Definition of 'roller'

"roller" definition varies from person to person. But majority would find that it is just the complete chassis with wheels and body minus ALL electronics.

Re: Definition of 'roller'

Hey Greg,

I just purchased a Losi Ten SCTE Roller... And it came with a clear body and no electronics. Everything else was there. I had to supply the ESC, Motor, Servo, TX/RX and the batteries..

That is pretty much the definition of roller... from the manufactures point of view. If it has the motor, ESC and Servo, but no batteries or TX/RX, then it is a ARTR (almost ready to run).

But, in the classifieds, some people may make the generalization of roller if it is not in a complete running form.

Definition of 'roller'

I've seen rollers listed in the classified a lot but the poster's definitions vary from having everything except for a receiver/radio up to a skeleton chassis with wheels. Is there an official definition?
