Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII Thanks!!! When I balanced the EII it didn't need any nose weight and flew very well. As I didn't want to add and tail weight after this addition I decide to get down and dirty with the Dremel. I think it will be fine as is. With the dummy engine in and secure I have moved onto the cowl detailing. There is a lot of discussion over what these "swirl" or "tooling" marks were. I think they are just that, tooling marks, from forming the aluminum sheets into formed cowling pieces. I again used my Dremel with a sanding disc on low speed. There is no pattern to these marks as they are totally random and seem to change in every reference picture I have. I am happy with my initial results. I think I will scotchbrite pad them lightly afterwards. Scott |

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII Wow, looks fantastic Scott! I’ve got a WW2 resin cast engine from FTE for my Boing P-26 Peashooter that weighs a ton as well but I’m not going to carve out any weight until I see how much nose weight I’m going to need

Re: Deitchman 1/3 Fokker EII Detailing the Eindecker now. First is to install the Zirolli Cast resin dummy Oberursel engine. I was surprised how heavy it was when I got it.....3.4 lbs!! I got out the trusty Dremel and started hollowing out the back sides of the cylinders. I managed to get it down to 1.2 lbs. I made the mounts from hardwood and 1/4" aircraft plywood. I added lightening holes where ever I could. This will all be painted grey and the engine will be detailed and painted. Next on the list it to make the side "cowl cheeks" and detail the cowl and all aluminum parts with the classic Fokker machine marks......... Scott |
