Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

Too bad I cannot get ahold of Peter, the chap I donated everything too.

Oh well, I think I’ll get the original small drawing reprinted out and go to Paragon again. But, the scale will be reduced to 1/10th this time. Slightly smaller, 78” long, 55” wingspan. A little easier to manhandle. I think I’ll still use the twin 90 mm setup, use twin 6 cell battery packs, Mega motors, Castle Creation ESC’s. The retracts and wheels I already have will fit even better. Also, I have all the needed servos.

The main wheels were slightly smaller when for a 1/9th version, but for the 1/10th size, they should be spot on. The main wheels on the Mig-25 are huge, I suspect it was because of the actual aircrafts all up weight.

I think I’ll be making a bunch of wood moulds to use as vacuum forming masters. I have the woodworking tools and skills, so why not. The canopy, turtle deck, tail cone, exhaust cones, wheel well doors, bumps and blisters, etc.

If this works out, might even offer a limited number of basic kits.

But, I’m only planning this, roughly, at the moment, I’m in California until mid-April. Once back though, I think this just might be my spring project.

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

I am just wondering if Peter could contact me. I seemed to have deleted our conversations and I’m curious if he made any progress on the big Mig. Unfortunately, I did not save his info and only know his first name, Peter.

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

The retracts were not part of the package, they were not really expensive units, they were from Hobby King, the black plastic housing with metal trunnions. I'll be using them in another foamie some day. Was always interested in the twin boom design Gary Strong designed, you had the prototype. Since I doubt very much I would duplicate a fiberglass turbine version, even slightly smaller size, I think a one off foam EDF version would be pretty quick and easy to make.

Just want to thank Peter for volunteering to continue with the Mig-25 project. I wish him well with the build, I hope he posts pictures as he continues.

So, that's a total of five planes and projects out of my workshop. Now, I must decide which models to take to the flying field and practice how low can I go, heh heh heh, I think the HE-162 might get sacrificed shortly it's a real challenge to fly (meaning, it's bear to fly, not stable at all)

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

I'm in the purge mode, four down and still purging. Does anyone want to take over this project as it has been languishing for much too long.

You will get all of the foam parts, drawings and any patterns. These are 100% FREE

If interested, I have numerous new in the box 90 mm Hoaye EDF units still. I sold them back in the day for $39.00 each, if interested, I'll give you really good deal on two of them, also, I have moulds to make the thrust tubes, these would be $30.00 each.

If interested, please PM me or e-mail me at j.dutsky@gmail.com

That's where planning comes into play, design and build it in detachable sections so it can be assembled at the field.

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

Shame that I really don't have the space for this beast.

Largest model that would fit in my workshop is the twin-50mm Arrow but would have to do construction first to have the storage space. Probably should do a major clean-up/-out this weekend if I get the time.

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

No, this Mig is a one off beast. But, everything has a price. Once done and flown, if someone offered serious money for it, who am I to say no

Unfortunately, most guys want to purchase stuff at prices less than what it cost to build it, which kinda upsets me. There are times I would rather just give it to someone who can't afford it, but really desires to be part of our hobby.

Know the feeling, just dragged out a plane that I'd put away five years ago in flight-ready condition (now up for sale), and yet, once more, I'm seriously thinking of starting a new scratch project even with about four almost-finished projects scattered around the workshop and about a dozen kits sitting under my storage cabinets.

However, you restarting old projects or starting new ones is forgivable, all things considered.

Of course, now seriously considering doubling my current order if that helps things, or if you're going to kit the Mig as well..... The Arrow/Mig bash looks interesting and will aggravate the Arrowphiles to no end.

Re: Twin EDF Mig-25 Foxbat

Thanks Eric, but I sold my NOTA Mig fuse years ago at the Aurora Swap Meet ........ maybe it was you who eventually got it, wouldn't that be ironic....
