Re: New AP RTF system I agree Dan...the simplicity of the EZ* is great. I had mine converted to ailerons but wasn't really happy with them believe it or not. I have extended the rudder which I found helps tremendously, especially when downwind. I have flown this plane in scary winds. My rule of thumb with the easystar is that if the box it came in blows away, it's too windy. Jerry...I think that you are really on the right track with the glider...it's going to be a great AP ship. |

Re: New AP RTF system Jerry, I understand where you are coming from, I always considered planes without ailerons lacking, but I must say in case of the EasyStar it is not the case. It is well designed and with a larger rudder it can be held steady in pretty strong wind and in these conditions, loaded up with more weight it does even better. ( don't forget it was designed as a primary glider/trainer so no overly effective surfaces were necessary ) For travel it is easy to tear down with no aileron servos to plug in and you can't beat simplicity of 3 channel plane. The clones do not fly as well and not as stable and most people fly planes with ailerons in constant lean to one side or another making you ill watching the videos. EasyStar with rudder turns can be turned very shallow and avoid this in the video. The easy glider can also do this well if you make shallow rudder turns and use opposit aileron to keep the wings steady, totaly opposit to normal flying, but great for video. Unfortunately the 'wings', that I like, have this issue also unless a rudder is added like the indoor guys use for more control. Dan |

Re: New AP RTF system Mark and Dan I've done many mod to the Clouds and have had good success and I considered the Easy Star but because "no ailerons" and the small stock rudder made me go a different way. I still plan on adding the Easy Star mount to the list for all you guys. The Easy Glider seems to be the better choice. If you guys like wings I have the wing for you. www.RiteWingRC.com I met Chris Kligue when I was down in Phoenix, AZ last week. He great guy and very well established client list. I had great time out at the fields down there, spent the weekend flying with them. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1165932 Jerry |

Re: New AP RTF system Yes I agree with you, that is why I said Stryker 'type' machine, all wings are a little touchy on horizontal axis it is the short tail moment but I will test it on the weekend hopefully with my webee, I find in the wind EasyStar even more twitchy and hard to hold level. I replied in your Stryker thread, you can use low rates set at 70% and some expo like25% in both rates and you will see your stryker calm down, also your cg maybe little far back if it is ballooning,, move your battery up a bit or strap a camera on the nose for weight.. I am also looking into the Ritewings the large 50", the swept back wings give more stability. dan |

Re: New AP RTF system Scrtqrl's FPV vidoes are legend over at the other forum. His trip across a fjord, circling the lighthouse and returning is incredible. Ddruck, I agree that nothing beats the original easystar but I can't agree that the Stryker would be a good plane for AP. Don't get me wrong...I love the plane but I just don't think that it's slow flying ability is good enough for AP/AV. I find it nose high and a little squirrly at low speed...but a bigger flying wing might have some potential. Here's my 20 second Stryker video showing slow and fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v04h7-Iqgeo |

Re: New AP RTF system There is a guy named scrtsqrl on rc groups who has done more then anyone I have read about on FPV and easystar, if you look at his conversion he was not really thrilled with it either, tail moment is too short with the large wing, I think it is too short with the normal wing. I had my easy star out in the wind ( 25kph ) on monday and it took it well with no ailerons with stock setup, larger rudder and brushless of course. Even with wind gust it stayed mostly level, wing rock is not bad at all, the larger rudder has good authority, with a gyro for elevator I think it is still the best basic machine available. I have flown 3 clones and non have the same characteristics, they lost something in the copying. That $40 or so difference in price is worth it. The easy glider has very similar characteristics but can handle heavier loads but I am leaning more towards the wings, neither of these can match wings like Stryker or similar type, for AV or FPV, in all weather conditions at low speeds, they are marketed as speed machines but their amazing low speed characteristics are ignored. scrtsqrl: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=119473 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810365 Dan |

Re: New AP RTF system I have flown my Easystar with my Easyglider wings...AKA big wing Easystar. Lots of guys love it for FPV as they can load a ton of gear and batteries in the plane. I was never real happy with the way it flew. |

Re: New AP RTF system Good point Dad... Jerry, as you will be scratch building the pusher you can have the pylon secured on the inside of the fuse like that guy. My Pro has is already build so I will likely glue a chunk of styrofoam on the top and mount my motor. Any thoughts of what motor you will be using? |
