Re: BJ Craft Invitation test flights

The BJ Craft "Invitation" is a very good airplane but is order to get the performance you want be prepared to make a few changes to the recommended set up.
The big change is to the recommended CG location of 200mm back from the LE at the root. I calculated the Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC) and that puts the CG at 37%.
I moved the CG forward by 30mm to 170mm back from the LE which put the CG at approx 28%. I have found that airplane to be flying very well at that location although I would like to move it further forward still, to 25%, but cant since the Battery is bumping against the motor as it is. I may move the Rudder servo forward to the wing tube and make it Pull-Pull in order to move the CG without adding weight. My airplane weighs 4820g with a F3AU 5400ma 10s battery and separate 800ma Rx pack.

Re: BJ Craft Invitation test flights

Hi Ivan,

I have around 15 flights in mine so far and I really, really like it. I have flying the 22x12 Falcon and I love the constant speed of that prop. This spring has been a bit windy but nothing too crazy (10-20Km). I have to try a couple more props, hopefully this week (weather permitting) I want to try the 21.5x13 and the 19.5x12 three blade.

Yesterday was gusting 30-40Km so it was a good day for a test in the wind. I switched to the Falcon 21x14 and it kept the plane well locked in, awesome speed throughout the entire sequence.

I have been only flying P17 for now but I have tried a few of the F17 maneuvers (Knife edge split S, Knife Edge reverse top hat) and.......no problem. Lots of rudder authority

Thanks Ivan for all the tips on the CG and MAC. It sure helped.
Cheers,

Will

Dear OXAI customers and F3A friends:
I am very grateful to you for trusting our company and flying with OXAI airplanes for such a long time.
Our Light Sport Aircraft project has already entered into a critical stage. For the sake of OXAI’s development,I am very sorry to inform you: We will stop the production and sales of F3A on June 30, 2016. After-sale service will also be stopped at the same time. We are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience we have brought to you
Finally, thanks again for your support and concern which you have been showing us.

BJ Craft Invitation test flights

About two weeks ago I flew my new BJ Craft "Invitation" for the first time, since then I have flown it two dozen flights or so. Without going into the details here in my first post suffice it to say that after a few adjustments I am very happy with this purchase.

Although I have had very limited experience with electric pattern airplanes I decided to depart from my trusty YS's and install a Plettenburg Advance with an OS ESC. This combination was a proven set up and I have found it to be easy to deal with and very powerful.

The quality of this kit is very good, I purchased airframe from F3A Unlimited for US $2200.00 which I figure is not a bad price considering an Oxai plane of similar or slightly better quality is selling for over twice that.

If anyone is building this plane or similar and interested in more detail please feel free to ask questions here I I'll do my best to answer.
