Re: Kudos to Horizon Hobby

I just had my second Dx6i repaired under warranty by them..
Fast repair . it was only there 2 days .

They called me up and said the replaced both gimbles and gave me a new batter cover with no cost .

Both experiences with them have been in regards to Dx6i's . both promptly repaired under warranty

very happy

Kinda OT...

I am using some 6 gram JR S185 servo's in a small aerobatic bipe. These are REALLY nice servo's. Very smooth and center well. Although 5x the cost of the cheap HXT500's, they are leagues apart.

You can't go wrong with Horizon's excellent support. If something goes wrong, I know I can get them repaired! That alone is worth the extra $$$.

Re: Kudos to Horizon Hobby

I was pretty dang impressed with them myself. I just sent in 3 8717 servos, with stripped leads and sloppy gears. I bought them second hand, and they clearly weren't under warranty.

They charged me $30 for labor. And nothing for parts. Those gear sets are $40 a pop, and they replaced all three along with the servo leads at no charge.

They also did some testing for proper centering, torque specs etc.

All for $30. I couldn't be more impressed. I see a lot more JR servos in my future.

I've been very please with Horizon's support. Recently, I had a bad motor in my MCX2. Called them up and after I ran some tests, they sent me 2 replacement motors at no charge!

Mine literally had a thin spot on the feedback potentiometer. It was very obviously a factory defect and not from wear.

I was told that I was out of luck because I had flown the helicopter more than once.

Well, give cleaning it a try... Things rarely stop working for no reason between flights.

Re: Kudos to Horizon Hobby

I agree but my heli has not had a lot of use and it still looks like new. It just sucks that it was working two days ago and than all of a sudden the servo is shot the next day. I will most like just pickup a second one.

I brought the heli to my LHS and they agreed. I filled out the service form on the HH site waiting to see what they have to say. The servo alone is around $15 but a replacement board is around $70....a little steep for a $119 RTF. If not covered my warranty I may be on the look out for a used MSR x.
Have you tried cleaning the servo? Those linear servos are famous for getting hair and debris stuck in the track and for the contact surface oxidizing, a little compressed air and alcohol and you're good to go. Keep in mind, you do need to maintain these helis. Just like with a car, oil changes, tire rotation... Etc. If after cleaning, it still doesn't work then yes, replacement may be necessary.

RC companies have to have strict warranties for anything that flies, think about it, new pilot with new heli, doesn't know how to fly and blames crash on the heli... Prices would skyrocket due to warranty replacements.

My 1 month old Blade MSR started to have a pitch oscillation that I traced to a defective servo POT. When I asked about warranty service they simply asked if the helicopter had ever flown and advised me that the warranty ended after the first flight. I have been trying to get a new control board from the guys I bought it from but it seems that I am out a $150 helicopter.
