Re: Bomber Command Museum.

The museum makes a good stopping point on the way from Calgary to Waterton Lakes National Park (apparently the home of the eponymous fur-covered trout....). At the time that I went through it, you could go into the Lac from the rear hatch and go up through the fuselage to just behind the cockpit.

Very focussed on Bomber Command and its history during WW2, so it's interesting and enlightenining. Well worth the drive down if you haven't been there before.

BTW, a CF100 is on a pedestal outside and in pretty good shape, considering.

By the way, they still have a Lanc at Greenwood. Last time I was there, it was out in front of the museum. IIRC, it was painted 'aluminum'. Unfortunately, didn't have a camera with me, so no pics.

It's first flight would be a very big day in history. I'd expect them to publicize before & after. I sure would like to be there.

Well, I stand corrected! I have obviously not been following the project as closely as I should have! Good news to hear that they want to go all the way to a flying aircraft!

Re: Bomber Command Museum.

I live in Calgary (near Nanton) and they have been doing a great job in restoring the Lanc. It will not be a flying exhibit but they want to have it fire up the engines and taxi around. I think they have three of the engines overhauled and running now! It's pretty cool when they fire them up for public exhibits.

Bomber Command Museum.

Thought some of you might be interested in some of the great info at this (new to me) museum. I got the link at one of my photography forums where a member had posted photos of the Lanc there. Based on the info on the museum site it was stationed in Greenwood while I lived there and it's extremely likely my father would have crewed on it.
