Re: getting out of flying and into floating Bigger fly's better. Some thing with a flat bottom wing that will fly on 25cc gas. The engine won't quit. That is one big plus. Touch and go both directions. Right and left turn approach. These are the things you have to master. Fly in the wind. And you will learn to battle for control. A good place to fly is needed. |

Re: getting out of flying and into floating The Dumas Swamp Buggy is an excellent boat with a .40 and it uses an airplane engine. I've had 4 of them and they are a hoot! |

Re: getting out of flying and into floating If you're serious about an airboat, there should be lots of plans available to get you started, or just sketch something up and start building. Make sure the bottom isn't totally flat, but tapers up on the sides. If it's too flat and square at the edge it will catch when sliding and flip. More like this: than this: |

Re: getting out of flying and into floating Thanks Ryan! There have been many redo moments and I have had to leave it alone on occasions or I likely would have pitched it in the garbage. I have the next one coming up which will be the Ferryman of the River Styx, that will likely be done sometime next year. Scratch building is what I like to do. |

Re: getting out of flying and into floating Boats are more forgiving too when it comes to RC. For me I love building boats and take some time doing it. Once I get all the bugs worked out in the water I get bored and move onto the next build. Re: getting out of flying and into floating Hi Dan, if you like building model planes better than flying them, I would recommend switching to scale boats or at least try it out. Building scale boats is challenging and teaches patience. Regards Wilhelm |

Re: getting out of flying and into floating Dan I have buddy boxed many guys. It's a good and most of the time safe way to learn. A good option I have found since you like building is flite test planes. Nice easy CHEAP and it improves your building skills. If you do plow one in it's $4 in foam board and a night or two of glueing and you have a new plane. The plans are free so you don't need to buy the kits just tape, cut, glue. I've flow for many years and have big gassers but I still have three flite test foam planes cause they fly so nice. Just an option!! I'm in the grove area let me know if you want help on the first one!! I may still have some servos and power system for them. I probably even have a spare DX5 controller. Not the best but it works. |
