The discharge method for disposal is what I use.

Whatever you do, don't soak the lipo in saltwater or use other methods that do not fully discharge the battery first.

Re: Turnigy LiPo

Some stores accept batteries for recycling. Home Depot does not accept Lipos. Rona does accept a few types including Lipos, but they probavly mean those for power tools. I still left a few in the container.

Re: Turnigy LiPo

Hi, I put the puffed one and the dead one in a steel amo box in the garage. I will send the 2 back to Hobby King. I still have 6 of the 4s 5000 mAh 40-50c that are good. I have another 3 - 6s 5000 mAh that I bought before that are good. I ordered 2 - more 4s 5000 mAh nano tech batteries and one more 6s 6000 mAh nano tech. I looked at the Voltz line but they did not have the 4S packs I needed. Does anyone have a better souce and experience for good batteries? Oh ya, I tried to charge them slowly to see if the bad cell would come up enough to balance charge but no luck. Thanks Ken

+1 to what Phillipa said...it's a gamble, usually you win with HK but you lost this time around. If I were you I would not keep those puffed packs in the house...get rid of them. It's only happened to me once...a crashed battery started to puff...I wasn't sure how to get rid of it safely so I stopped at the local fire hall...the guys were great and more than happy to take it.

This is the chance you take ordering from HK. Most people are willing to overlook:

1) The nearly non-existent customer service.

2) Questionable quality

3) Grossly inflated specs

All in lieu of dirt cheap prices!

Those lipos (25C version) are only $40 each. Hate to say it, but just go buy more. It's not worth getting warranty service as return shipping is more expensive than the battery itself, not to mention a big hassle.

Re: Turnigy LiPo

I have HK batteries and did lose 2. I read that new lipos should not be discharged fully, and have been 'burning in' the new ones a few cycles half normal discharge to get them in the rhythm. I do have a few 25C packs that are puffed, but they charge and run well anyway.

Re: Turnigy LiPo

You bit the bullet.....and lost.
It's the price you pay for having cheap LiPo's even with delivery charges.
You would have to register your battery numbers with HK to have warranty and pay for their return. HK will replace the batteries for you. Its a pain in the A$$ so it is cheaper to just buy another battery....and bite the bullet again.

You can also slow charge the batteries until the bad cells shows some sign of life...then slowly increase the charge until full......try that.
