Re: Wrong Inverter I believe what Max is referring to is a server supply like the one I provided a link to above. The Dell and HP servers supply should be of equal quality and about the same output. They are probably all made in Asia. The one from Markham in the link above would be one that I would buy. Should last for years and supply just about anything you would ever need. For $35 shipped it is not too expensive. The Power Supply out of cheap PC's is not something I would use unless it came from a know name. |

Re: Wrong Inverter LOL, ya, like I said, one method that sounds dumb as hell, but works, pick it up, does it feel way lighter than it should for something of its size, if yes, it's garbage, if it's a brick, generally it's good. I came from a computer tech forum that I moderated on for many years, that's why I have such a huge list. |

Re: Wrong Inverter Mine is a FSP group, made in China. Wow, what a list. Even the name brands have questionable models. How's anyone supposed to know what to buy? I used to buy my cases with a power supply from Factory Direct, they were $30.00. Of all the computers I put together I never had one come back with a bad power supply. With all the makes on your list I wonder how many manufacturers actually make the power supplies. Probably only a few. Cheers Floyd |

Re: Wrong Inverter Floyd, beware of computer power supplies that seem unusually light. I was in the computer business for many years and those cheap ones are very poor quality and some of them I would go as far as to say they are borderline dangerous. When they fail, they can often take out connected equipment with them and I've even had some come across my bench that caught on fire. A good power supply will generally have some weight to them. I can't quite make out the label on yours, it looks like FSP (Fortron Source), those are OK. Server power supplies are pretty much not an issue as there isn't really a knock off market for them. Good power supplies AMS Akasa (PowerGreen, Power+) Antec (almost all models) AOpen (select models) BFG Technologies (800W model) Channel Well Chieftec (non-bundled) Cooler Master (UCP) Corsair (Best PSU Manf., CustomPC) Delta E-Power Enermax Enlight Fortron Source Hi-Power Jeantech Mushkin OCZ (EliteXStream, EvoStream, ProXStream) PCMCIS PC Power & Cooling PowerMan Raidmax (ONLY select models from Tagan/Topower) Seasonic SilenX Silverstone (ZF, ZM) Sparkle Tagan Thermaltake (select models) TTGI/SuperFlower (select models) Tuniq Verax Xclio (only GreatPower) Zalman</td> Poor and/or questionable power supplies. Achieve Allied Apevia (formerly Aspire, same quality) Bestec Codegen CoolMax Cyberzone DEER Dragon Eagle Tech EYE-T Foxconn Greenline Hiper (most low-wattage models) HIPRO JSP-tech KingStar Kingwin L&C Linkworld Okia Orion PowerMagic PowerTek PowerUp Powmax Q-Tec Raidmax (almost all non Tagan/Topower) Rosewill Skyhawk Startech Turbolink Ultra (esp. X-Connect) Win Xion Youngyear |

Re: Wrong Inverter Tell me more about the computer power supply please Floyd. I took an old obsolete power supply and did a google search for how to wire it up. Most power supplies have 3 output rails. (3.3, 5 and 12volt) I installed a red light so I know when its on. I wired in a red and black banana plug set up. I now have a constant 12 volt DC 20 amp power supply. I chose one with a variable cooling fan speed. It doesn't even break a sweat. I didn't need bigger than a 20 amp. If you went to a dump they would probably let you take a power supply for free. Unless you know somebody that works on computers. Mine is small and not heavy at all. Cheers Floyd |

Re: Wrong Inverter In reading this thread the "inverter" term confused me too. I have been in the habit of using an automotive 12 volt battery as a power source for home charging. Nice clean DC power with no issues of current limitation but it's not that convenient. I would like to go with something different. Tell me more about the computer power supply please Floyd. |
