Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

Hi guys, summer is over but the good weather permits more take offs with the Contender.
I have more than 32 flights so far and I should reach 50 before the end of the year.
That plane is a rocket with the SuperTiger .61, and flying it is a charm. I have no pictures to show but you can take a look at our events in Victoriaville last summer.

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

The nice thing about flying the contender is it handles wind very well, and is quite stable.I like flying this plane in strong winds.

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

Hi, I had a test flight today with flaps-elevator mixing and its true that you can almost stop it in the air. I had about 30km winds and it was almost stopped over the runway. That plane is now the funniest one to fly I have.

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

Recently built a Contender for another flyer, the flap is a bit weird, but it is neat at the same time. I've got elevator/flap mixing for my Senior Telemaster, so no ballooning at all, and I can fly it backwards in a stiff breeze. Hover landings are fun too!

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

Thanks Ken, its true when I put the flaps on, the plane balloons up, I'll try to put down elevator in the mix. I'll keep you informed on its performances.

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

The Contender was designed in the 70s when Pattern was popular therfore smaller ailerons - 3D stuff was not invented eh! Congrats on your maiden! When you start playing with the flap you will have a ball - you may need to mix in a tiny bit of down elevator when flap is deployed to keep it from ballooning upward. With flap deployed and right engine setting you can cover the whole runway at the same level at a walking pace. way cool fun!

Re: TopFlite Contender build thread

Hey guys long time no see, I finally maiden my Contender yesterday. Had 3 nice flights and the trims where pretty good exept a little right aileron. Balance is perfect too. I was forced to stop because the muffller nipple broke when I whent to fuel up for a fourth flight. Its fixed now. Luckily it hapened on the starting table. Flying is pretty smooth and aerobatics is super, the 61 supertiger has a lot of power too. It will be a prefered among the others. I regret one thing and its building the large flap under the belly, useless this plane glides to land like a charm. I could have used the surface for the ailerons since they are not very large. But thats alright we'll see what we can do for that later.
To be continued.
