I'm going to copy an approach I saw on flying giants; the latches will be fastened to the inside of the fuselage and a small block of UHMW polyethylene will be attached to the canopy tab through the blind nut. The latches will engage a hole on the poly.

Here's a diagram with a view from above.

Re: Canopy + heat = bad... but can it be fixed?

My new canopy arrived yesterday. I opened the bigger box to find the smaller, original box inside. I opened that and pulled the canopy out of its protective plastic bag.

The wood has a particular smell that I've always associated with China... I lived there for two years when I was very young and it brought back some sense memory for me.

I set the canopy on the fuse and noticed there was a gap on the starboard side as it rests there. Perhaps a little gentle heat...

Kidding!

When it's fastened in place the gap disappears. Speaking of which, something else arrived in the mail this week...

A pair of canopy latches. I'll probably experiment with the old canopy first, though.

I don't think I've mentioned that this plane has been discontinued by Slipstream

Last last week I was on the Ohio Model Products (OMP) site and noticed they were still listing the Slipstream 50cc SBach, though out of stock.

I contacted John Drake, the parts guy, and lo! They have one 50cc canopy left in my colour scheme. Woo hoo!

Thanks for the tips. And of course that pilot looks unhappy - he's downright pi$$ed at me for what I did to his airplane.

the pilot looks unhappy

you would need a vacuum form and a new piece of plastic

Actually I think it can be fixed depending on your building skills. You have to make a new turtle deck useing the old one as a pattern. Cut the canopy just aft of the the damaged area following the contour of the canopy. Match the your new turtle deck to the old and hopefully it will be good as new. Good luck
