Re: Hobby Topgun 90mm L-39 in DDR markings ready for flight!

We have been flying the L39 a fair bit recently and with flight times of 5:20 the typical mah put back into our 6S packs is 3500 or less. This is doing considerable aerobatics and a number of touch-n-goes. If it is pressed really hard the most I have seen is 4200mah.
Very efficient airframe/EDF combination giving plenty of vertical performance.

Thanks Neven,
It is proof that some things are simply ahead of their time.

If you post a wanted add in the forum classifieds, you might just luck out and get one. On the other hand, most of the FlyFly jets fly just like this one. Some are still available on Hobby88.com but they need a bit of work to make reliable.
Cheers Eric

JETcro Awesome looking jet
I'm very impressed how slow and stable it flies, too bad it's not available any more 😞
Nice work Eric

Made a video of our L39 today powered by the FW 90mm 12 blade and a FlyFly 1500kv outrunner. Battery a GensAce 6S 5500mah
Great sound and power from the cheapest components. Decent flight time as well with final cell voltages 3.7 or better.

Simplicity at it's best Eric. Very good design good design, I shall copy it for my Banshee.

Re: Hobby Topgun 90mm L-39 in DDR markings ready for flight!

The HK medium sized retract was acting intermittently until I added some light oil to the drive gear and loosened all the retract case screws. When the case haves are tight it seems to cause binding. With dozens of similar style retracts, this is the first that has that issue. Since it is out of the plane I will post a picture of our “pull pull” steering arrangement. Simple balsa rails glued to the retract to hold the servo.

Although it has been out of production for years, it will be produced again for Jepe.

No. No more production. Jepe emailed me that he will not be selling any HTG L39's.

Hey there Eric, was surfing the net this morning and came across a really nice paint scheme for the L-39. The civilian aerobatic team is from Latvia and they call themselves, The Baltic Beee's

Might consider it if you ever want to freshen up your bird with a new look. There are lots of great pictures on the net for reference which is nice.
